I have a french bread in a paper that sat too long and turned into a hard, dry brick. I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to restore this bread to a soft and moist state?

A few seconds in a microwave will do the trick.

If it is in paper and not cellophane, wet the paper and put in the oven 250-300 and check every so often. The microwave works but be careful. I caught french bread on fire that way (it burned from the inside out----worse that burnt popcorn smell)

yeah - the micro will soften it up - for anout 30 seconds - Steam the bread - (steamer basket/pasta strainer) but if it's a "baggette" it's made to be "crusty" - you'' have to slice it first - the steam wount get through the crust otherwise. - I've done this. - 1 inch or so slices in the bottom of the steamer - flip after 2 minutes. - Good to go
