is it because of christianity's roots in ancient forms of paganism, which practiced phallus worship? does the oil represent semen? is that why people go to SEMINary?

I don't think that's what the oil represents, but the word "seminary" DOES actually have its roots tied to the word "semen."

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Christianity's roots come from Jesus Christ and the continuation of the Jewish faith through messianic beliefs. Oil is a practice used among many societies. It is used as an expression.
