I was wondering how much torque and hp a stock rebuilt AOD tranny can take. I have one thats been rebuilt with a shift kit intalled and Im wanting to bolt it up to my mildly built 351. About 330 HP

i own a repair shop,and i have built a few of them ,,it should old up under that much pretty good,i had one that was running around 350 horses,and it held up real good,so yours should be pretty good if it was built right ,good luck i hope this helps.

It depends on the vehicle it came from. Generally, the latest model year vehicles (ie. '87 to '93 Mustangs, '90 to '91 C.V., G.M. & T.C.) are the most desirable ones. Bear in mind, if it comes from a 'police interceptor' C.V., there is no manual first gear selection on those particular models. I believe those transmissions were famous for burning out the overdrive bands and direct clutches. The other weak spot on those transmissions, is the hollow input shaft. If you are going to build one up to withstand 330 HP, you would be better advised to try to pirate parts from an AOD-E or 4R70W setup. I believe there are a lot of internal parts that will interchange between the two, if you do your homework. Hope this helps. Good luck.
