All we ever used was salt. Wrap it up and put it in the freezer

Just found this on the net, It's for Tanning deer but this works with rabbit also

How long ago did you put the salt on? The reason you have to use non-iodized salt is to absorb the moisture in the hide. I suspect that if you use iodized salt that this won't happen effectively and your hide won't be preserved well, and/or the iodine might wreck it. I would take off the salt that's on there and start again, and just try to salvage what you've got.

I think you are actually supposed to use a chemical called tannin or something like that. I believe it's called tannic acid. The most important portion is to make sure that you remove all of the fat from the hide. If you don't, the hair will come off the hide wherever the fat was left on the hide due to a chemical reaction that fat goes through as it oxidizes. Basically remove the fat, brush some tannic acid on it, then clip it to a hide stretcher (basically a large bent u-shaped piece of wire. Then I believe you sit it out in the sun to dry.

first to all the bleeding hearts....whine whine whine...this may get me a bad answear but here goes...do u think about the meat youre eating? ever see a brown eyed bessie get slaughterd, well sugar this aint do differnt, its meat, your forefathers did as did mine...they used the fur to keep warm. if you dont like the question get your animal hatred to another site....okay now to your question...im not sure if the iodized salt will hurt it, but you have to make sure all the fat is scraped off the hide..it will make your fur rancid even if its cured....yes and wrap it up and put in frezzer till youre ready to use it...good luck with all the whiney animal haters in here. oh by the way....the way they kill bessie is with a sledge hammer between the eyes,,, think about that the next time you have steak

it will have a big furry tanning goiter? Ha! Ok seriously I do not know. Just the joke was funny to me. Too much iodine, goiter...
I do not even want to know how you came by that hide! You should have yours tanned for even thinking about doing something like this.
