When I am around, she dares not do it, but when I'm not, she will drain the whole bottle of water by paddling the water with her paws and scratching the plastic bottle and the water dish, making the floor all wet. I scolded her many many times and told her not to do it, but she just can't resist it when I'm not around. What should I do to change this annoying habit of hers?

Only offer her water when you are there! Problem solved.

No seriously. Dogs do need access to fresh water, but they don't need anywhere near as often as you might think. I would just lift the water bowl out of her way and leave her to it! I presume that you are not leaving your dog for long periods of time of course.

How old is you dog? normally a dog will have a bad habit when they are young. mine mad this chewing problem. but you should never take water away from a dog. a dog can go for days without food, but only a few hours without water. eventually, the dog will grow out of the habit. scold her only when you catch her doing it, because the dog will be confused if you greet her with scolding. just get a water feeder like they give to hamsters or they use in cages. you can usually hang them on whatever.

You shouldn't scold her if you dont catch her in the act of doing it. She wont understand what your scolding her for.

Most of the time pup's grow out of doing that. She might be bored and needs something else to play. Another option is, if your not gone for too incredibally long, take the water away while your not there. I know they advise against it, but really, a few hours wont hurt them.

Hmm, sounds like your dog might enjoy a good game of fetch on a lakeshore! I know this isn't an answer to your problem, but if you take her somewhere she can actually go into the water to fetch a ball, she might really enjoy there!

And yes, if you can find a dog sized water bottle to hang, this will eliminate your problem most likely.

You do know that dogs sweat through the pads on their paws right ? Most dogs will pat the water, walk through it, or stand in water because its soothing and cooling on their feet and paws because that's how they sweat. My dog has his own little pool out in our backyard so when ever he's at play and gets himself all heated up he walks through his pool and cools himself down, maybe your dog just likes the cool water on her feet. Give her a small pool, or a large flat container in your backroom or porch with cool water in it so she can play in it when she wants. They usually won't roll in it.

Oh My Goodness I though my dog was the only idiot that did that! She's 4 and we never were able to break her of it. we have to keep a towel on the floor when she drinks.
