I am curious to study the Bible. How do I do it?

Brother, I thank God that our paths meet... you see, I made a commitment to use this internet to spread the gospel commision of Matthew 28 : 19 , 20 ...so that if some may see Jesus and KNOW him and be SAVED, I would be thrilled as I also know that HEAVEN is also thrilled...In Mathew 24..the gospel of God's kingdom must be spread into all ends of this world THEN Jesus returns totake his people home...I'm going there with my family and I am inviting others like YOU to do likewise...in II Timothy 2 : 15 it says : STUDY ( the wORD of GOD ) to show yourself APPROVED UNTO GOD , RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH ....First of all, I am willing to share with you whatever you want to know about God's TRUTH, NOT from traditions of the church BUT everything as ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE which is God's WORD.. the TRUTH... the WAY ...the LIFE...my email address : srjione@yahoo.com ... furthermore, seek a SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST PASTOR in your neighbourhood and ask him anything about the word of God and I ASSURE you , you will NEVER regret...May God Bless You

Use your Bible and follow the procedure that it outlines:
1. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. (I Thess. 5:21)
2. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. (Isa. 28:10)
3. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. (Acts 17:11)
Use the most accurate Bible translation available, which most Bible scholars believe to be the King James Version. If it has a middle column on each page, called a cross-reference, USE it, as referred to in number 2 above, and also use the concordance in the back. Both are valuable aids. Use the WHOLE Bible to study. Both the Old and New Testaments reference each other.
You don't need anyone else to teach you. You can do it by yourself. The Bible is a fascinating book of history, wisdom, humor, genealogy, sociology. Reading the King James English is difficult at first, but by using the Bible through its cross-reference to explain and clarify itself, with diligent study and enthusiastic approach, it will begin to make sense. Another fascinating Bible is The Schocken Bible, which is a very accurate translation of the original Hebrew of the first five books of the Bible.
It also helps to pray that your mind will be opened to understanding what you read in the Bible.

There are 5 things you should look for when you read the Bible:
1. What does it tell about Jehovah God as a person
2. How does it relate to the overall theme of the Bible, which is the sanctification of God's name and sovereignty by means of his kingdom
3. How does the context affect its meaning
4. How can I apply this information personally
5. How can I use this information to help others
Be sure to use the Bible to explain the Bible. The Bible never contradicts itself. Make sure to take all scriptures within their context as well. There should be multiple scriptures to back up every doctrine or belief.
By studying the Bible every day in this way, you will develop a personal relationship with Jehovah God and enjoy the happiest way of life.

For a begininer I would say to either start with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) or get a devotional book. First and for most it is important to learn about the life of Christ and that can be done in the Gospels. However a devotional can lead you through the scriptures. Just makes sure you are putting more emphasis on the Word of God in the Bible rather than the word of man in the devotional. I think I worded that poorly. What I mean is be open to what God has to say to you about the scripture and not lean only on what the writter of the devotional has to say about the scripture.
The first and last thing you should do when doing a Bible study is pray. Ask that He will open your heart to what He has to say before you start. When you are through ask that He will show you how to use the knowledge He gave you.

Try reading it and don't "read around" certain passages and quotes to make things the way you want them or the way someone tells you they are.
I don't know how many times I have been in churches where they are preaching on a certain passage and then I got home and read all around it or the whole chapter and found out it meant nothing like the church was saying.

Take a seminary or do what I did. Go buy a Bible Commentary and read it as you read the bible because it explains it.
