Fort Carson is supposed to be one of the best places to live! We are trying to get moved there right now, actually. It's beautiful and everyone I know who has lived there absolutely loved it. It will get really cold and snowy in the winter but I've never heard a bad thing about it. As for life on a military base in general, it's nice. It's safe, everything you really need is on the base (groceries, gas, stores, medical). We lived on post at Fort Polk and I liked it. We live off post where we are now but if we can't get moved we're going to move into military housing because it's a lot safer and nicer than where we are now. The only problem might be that the housing waiting list is probably pretty long. You may have to live off post, at least for a while. Go to www.carson.army.mil and you will find a lot of information, as well as links to housing and community information. I'm sure you'll love it there.

don't know about Fort Carson but with 21 years of active duty I can tell you that life on a military base is much the same as life in any town or city except that military families are much closer to each other than non-military neighbors. You will get used to it quite quickly. Just remember you are on a military installation and the rules must be followed. Don't worry, the rules are just plain common sense and coutisies that should be extende to anyone, anywhere. Good luck on your new life.

Never been to Fort Carson, but all of the bases run the same way. I have been an Army wife for 8yrs. now. It has its ups and downs, but overall I have been happy. Living on base is the way to go if you have the option. I know the housing is not that great, but it has a lot of perks. I always feel safer on base. The neighbors always look out for each other. I also found a nice network of neighbors who traded childcare with me. We would take turns watching each others kids when we had appointments to go too. I have never found the same kind of support and friendship off base as I have on. Good luck to you and your family.

Life is whatever you make it, where doesn't really matter. Just as I have seen people happy as a bunch school kids while living in a "hell hole" in some forgotten part of the world, I have also seen people miserable beyond all belief while living in an absolute Paradise.
Tell you this,,,,, you could have done a lot worse, Ft Carson is in some of the nicest country in the US, but it is up to you and your husband to get out and enjoy it.

I'm Retired from the Military Now, but it is pretty much like a very close community -- but much nicer -- and the common courtesies do apply. I, personally, like it that I don't see all those signs and other junk that clutter highways everywhere.
Remember that the best way to learn about the military and meet new people is to be willing to explore -- the post your husband will be assigned to, the surrounding community, and especially the neighbors in family housing.

Carson is a nice base, many recent renovations and good surrounding area. Just be sure to avoid Ft. Polk.

My hubby has been in 18+ years :) the first few years that he's in money will be tight, very tight at times especially if he is enlisted (as my hubby is).
You will find ways to do FINE though & hopefully you will love being a military wife. There are some who hate it but it's all about your attitude. For support I really suggest that you check out this site: www.cinchouse.com
It's got wonderful information & money saving ideas etc., etc.
congratulations to you & welcome to a challenging yet wonderful new family ;-) (the military that is).

it is nice in ways, i like to know that mp's have to answer any call to the home if it comes from there or somewhere else, commissary is good, and cool to watch airplanes&choppers go over.now the driving rules are strict but all for good reasons and the thing i dont like is having neighbors above and next to me.i wish you all the luck and hope you know you are some one also..i say that cause sometimes you will get in the dumps and may feel like you dont matter...but you do...
