You'll need to do bicep curls, tricep exercises, chest and back. Go to www.bodyforlife.com and see their demos for these areas.

Try doing push ups with your knees on the ground. if that’s too hard start at an incline, try doing push ups against the wall with your feet three or four feet away from the wall. Or try leaning on a countertop. Gradually decrease the angle that you’re doing the pushups at, a staircase works well for this. No matter which method you use start out by doing five a day every day then gradually, as that gets easier, increase to 8 then 12 and so on, by January you'll be able to do 40!

I'm the same way, I swear my 80 year-old grandma could do more push-ups than me. However, when I seriously get into cardio-sculpt workouts, I find my upper body strength increases, the more I do these types of workouts.
Start by toning and strengthening your arms/shoulders with light weights, do a few sets of bicep curls, reverse curls, shoulder/military presses and chest presses. For chest presses, if you don't have a bench, lay on the floor with a couple of pillows stacked under and between your shoulder blades.
Unfortunately, you have to breakdown the muscles in order to build them up so the few days following your initial workout, your muscles will be in pain, but this is natural. Then ease into push-ups, and start by doing 'girl' push-ups first (same push-up position, but your legs are crossed at the ankles). Start by doing as many push-ups as you can handle and work your way up to doing a set of 20 or more.

Start lifting weights especially benching and curls.
I remember when I could barely do 10 pushups, now I can do around 40 a set.
Only way to get good at pushups is to do them.
Do 2 sets of as many as you can in the morning and two at the end of the day (or somewhere during the day) and the amount you can do will seriously skyrocket in no time.
I'm not even in shape, but I was stunned at how fast I was able to increase how many I could do within a matter of weeks.

swimming. it's one of the best sports for ur body. there is no stree against ur body the way running stresses ur legs in a bad way.
anyway, do a lot of swimming with the foam things in between ur legs (i forgot what they're called). but the idea is u only use ur arms. this will help a LOT! trust me. I went to the junior olympics for swimming and it's coming from some who just likes swimming. talk to a swim instrucor for help too.
do all 4 strokes, but mostly butterfly. that was my favorite. it'll work the chest muscles, and freestyle will work ur arms.
good luck

i had this exact same problem. I would try to do just one. Just do it. I know they are very hard to do, but you have to pass your exam, so tell yourself that you HAVE to do just one, and just DO IT. Make yourself.
I would start out getting into the position, and hold it. Lower your arms a little bit , and then back up. do this a few times a day and this will build your muscles upp....try it

start by doing push ups fromyour knees and gradually work way up proper ones. If you can't do that. Stand facing a wall, and put your hands on the wall, then do push motion. Increase angle gradually. Once you can do a lot of those move to your knees then finall to proper push ups.

In push ups the main muscles that are used are your chest muscles. So try to use your chest muscles and less your arm muscles when attempting to lift yourself. You can start with the knees on the floor.

Get a fit ball (one of those huge ones) and you can do push up on it, leaning on it, then lay on top, the further down the ball you go (ex. towards your ankles) the harder. Start with laying on the ball with it at your thighs then when your ready move it down, but you can go at your own pace. The balls are cheep special this time of year.
