The CDC recommends that pregnant women receive flu shots. Due to the uncertain the effects of THIMERSOL (aka mercury) many pregnant women opt to get preservative free shots, which are in short supply this year. The state of CA mandates that children and pregnant women be only given the preservative free version!

Yes you can, but they usually want to wait until after the first Trimester. When they talk about people getting flu shots, they always mention the elderly, the very young and pregnant women in their second and third trimester.

My doctor told me to get a flu shot as soon as I can. I'm 15 weeks pregnant and I'm going in on October 25th to get a shot. She would have given me one herself, but she said that I would most likely find another place first before they got it into their office. I would ask your doctor because it's dangerous to self prescribe anything at this point, even a flu shot, but I can tell you my doctor strongly urged me to do so.

Yes, you can.

In fact, you're in group given highest priority for getting the shots.

Pregnancy leaves your immune system slightly compromised, and, should you catch the flu, you're more at risk for complications. Plus, babies under 6 months can't currently be vaccinated, and they're at high risk, too, so caregivers are encouraged to be vaccinated to protect infants.

You can't get the live-virus nasal spray vaccine, but the shot is fine.

I would not do it even if they told me it was all right. Stay healthy by eating right, getting enough sleep, exercise, and wash, wash your hands.
Your actually the most healthy when you are pregnant.
