I think one of the biggest problems in our society is how polarized we have become. And I think one reason for that polarization is that we tend to read and listen only to those with whom we agree. Multiple sources are absolutely necessary to form a reasoned and intelligent opinion. And in the process of gathering varrying viewpoints, we might just learn to like each other in the process. What a concept!

You could probably get away with one source, but of course the more varied the sources the more general your knowledge will be. General knowledge is more about knowing a wide range of stuff, rather than where you learnt it form.

Good general knowledge cannot be gained by consciously learning by rote from anywhere.It can be built up over a period of time by reading from newspapers/internet and most importantly by keeping your ears and eyes open. You'd be surprised how much you'll learn that way.

The smartest people don't KNOW all the answers. They know how to FIND all the answers and how to doublecheck them.

Finding answers requires being creative about finding the right source.

be skeptical of internet sources; anyone can say anything. go with a source that has real-world creds.

Wikipedia is accurate more often than not, but theoretically anyone can put anything on it. watch out.
