Saw your Prev question too. If you want something in between the consumer grade retail software and the serious professional TV station grade software. Adobe Premiere Pro or Apple Final Cut Pro will be the choices of Prosumer grade video editing software that won't cost you your a lots of money. I made 2 60mins movies and a dozen of MTV using Adobe Premiere Pro myself. Very happy with it.

have you tried avid?

Avid is the most complete solution I have ever seen, capable of live broacasts for news, through to cutting and pasting of frames for your documentaries. If you are truely serious learn this.

In Australia, it is the software that is used by chanel 7 (who covered the Sydney 200 olympics, among other events) and by many profesional studios that are used to produce high end commercials and training material.

Best of all, Avid is capable of creating and working with both film and graphics in HD. A big-name example of use is Law and Order.
