I personally would choose Mac OS. Here are my reasons:

* I'm a Unix guy. I like the way the software works. Because I am a programmer, I notice all the subtle niceties of these systems.

* Mac OS is proven. It's been out for years and has received a lot of work and real world deployment. Vista hasn't even been officially released, although there are release candidates available to the public. Vista is newer and will probably contain more errors (also Microsoft is notorious for faulty systems, although they've been working hard to clean up their reputation).

* Mac OS is safe. Vista is safe too (we believe), but it hasn't been proven. XP, Microsoft's previous OS, was subject to multiple MASSIVE virus attacks that should never have happened. Mac users have never been subject to this kind of attack, although Mac has its weaknesses too.

* Mac OS is cheap. You can buy a Mac mini right now for a few hundred bucks and get the complete package: computer + OS. Vista is not out yet, so any PC you buy right now will need to upgraded later for a lot of money. Windows usually costs a couple hundred dollars all by itself.

Need I go on? Windows is definitely going to win in terms of popularity, which is something you should consider, but if you don't mind forgoing Windows programs (there are Mac programs available that are just as good if not better, and some programs are available for both--even MS Office).

Also keep in mind that if you change your mind later, if you have bought an Apple PC then you can load Windows on it any time you want. That's legal. If you buy a non-Apple PC, you can't load Mac OS on it (it's possible, but not legal).

If you get a Mac, you'll have the most options and see the most benefits.

I would personally choose Mac's Leapord because it comes with something Vital that you might need. What is this you ask? Time Capsule! Now it may sound silly but really it backs up all data and helps you majorly most of the time. Plus since Leapord is only made on a Mac computer you know it will run way better than Vista. Vista is just user-friendly and even if you dont like Mac you can use Windows on it by installing it.So why not go with a Mac? I don't know! ( No serioucly I don't know!) And Windows does not copy the previouse version of Mac. They are just making a new version of programming avalible in 5 different types to suit people best! Plus they are making it to update to 2007 versions of there programming. And finally, Leapord is also scedueld for release next spring so we really cant compare OX either! If you downloaded Vista rc1...well that is just plain dumb! You should wait to buy a hard copy since there are so many bugs they wont have them all fixed before the Hard Copy release. You should back up your files if you didnt.

Most of Vista is nothing more than a rip-off of OS X Tiger, so why wouldn't Leopard be better than Vista? You already knew that.

Leopard. Because Mac OS is always better than windows. And Microsoft only copies the previous version of mac

I just installed Vista RC1 on this computer.
I'm quite impressed.

But I STILL prefer OS/X because of interface consistency across all programs.

If you have the money to pay for an iMac, I'd buy OS/X and wait for Leopard.

Better yet, run Vista on top of OS/X! ...or vice versa.

I use OS/X at work and I've always loved Unix.

Vista production release is not scheduled until next year, so you really can't compare the two.
