A video IPod. You can load his favorite tv shows on it, his fav music videos, even a movie or two!!
Also, you can load all of the pictures of you and things from home on it, along with his favorite music.
Its a great way to tune out of where he is, and helps the time go by faster. Its nice and compact, which is a plus!!

You can get some of those books that are about the service he is in. Also, a small christmas tree from Wal-Mart and the tiny ornaments to decorate it. Homemade cookies, crossword puzzles, handmade cards, board games, CD's, IPOD, portable DVD's and DVD's.

I think at this point in his life anything from home would be great. Things he misses, like photos of the US, the trees, grass, flowers, animals. The others have great ideas also.

Get him that protective equipment that some families are getting for soldiers because the gov't won't supply them with it.

an iPod... that's what my hubby ( Marine) told me to write! LoL. He got one for Easter from me... it really helped pass the time! That's the key.. anything to help pass the time!

I would say sunscreen, lipbalm, phonecards, and personnal stuff like his favorite kind of soap.
A Toby Keith CD would probably be appreciated too.
