well lets see, the korean war has been going on 50 years and the vietnam war 30 years ( both are still divided into north and south and we have soldiars stationed there) so probably about 60 to 75 years ought to do it.
The army will continue to use your husband until there is nothing left of him if he allows it. Old soldiars never die, they just fade away.. get used to it

(1) Official hostilities between The United States and Iraq ended on May 1st, 2003 by Executive Order. What is going on now is a long and ugly peacekeeping mission in a Civil War. The violence we absorb is a sideshow compared to what the Iraqis do to each other.

(2) Since it is already October 2006, how your husband "is getting deployed" by "May of this year" (that's May 2006) - which is several months beforehand - either indicates you've screwed up your tenses, or he's deploying May of 2008. You're not supposed to divulge that sort of information that far ahead on public source. More to the point, your husband shouldn't be telling you that sort of thing as 8-9 months in advance, no one knows anything for certain.

(3) The Army will deploy your husband's unit wherever they need them. You should be talking to your FRG about issues like this. If you're unhappy with your husband deploying, have him ETS as soon as time and conditions permit. No one put a gun to his head or spiked his drink and forced him to join the Army.

You can pray all you want, but the chance of the Army winding up its deployments and pulling all its forces out of Iraq just doesn't exist. Even if we weren't in Iraq, we have Afghanistan rotations (why does EVERYONE forget Afghanistan?) and even if we didn't have Afghanistan, we'd have someplace else to go. You have better odds of predicting when the Kingdom of the Lord will arrive, than trying to figure out when a cessation of hostilities in Iraq will permit your husband's tour to be cut short.

That is just how it is, so talk to your husband about his career and your concerns, and share these with the FRG if they're decent people. That makes more far more sense than coming on here and airing it out.

According to Bush the war ended months ago and we won, what's going on now is peace and nation building. Deployment is part of a Military lifestyle, especially with as many hot spots as there are in the world. If it's not Iraq it will probably be somewhere else, sad, but a fact of a soldiers life.

It kind of goes with the job. My son is being deployed there next
month and is really happy to be going. He is proud to serve his country.

The Army has posts all over the world so he can be stationed
at most of them if they use his MOS.

the word deploy is meant to be kind of temporary usually less than 6 months. but as we know Iraq deployments are running a year long. so I'd plan on him being there that long. I don't think
it will be over any sooner than that, The Iraqi security forces
simply are not ready to protect their own country yet.

USA will withdraw troops from Iraq in about 18 months and
when that happens, the US Army will deploy him somewhere else.

First I would like to thank your husband for defending us. It is appreciated.

The war in Iraq for us will never end. It will continue even when we leave. The people, the culture, they have been fighting for over 2000 years, what makes any of us think we can stop it.

And... if the war is over, he will be reassigned to another location until his tour is complete.

Thank you and God bless.

I hope it does end soon, but even if it does, and it doens't seem likely-our troops will be there for a long time after the end of this Iraq war.

To be frank, you do not have a clue approximately what you're conversing approximately. you quite ought to examine background on warfare for one. it may provide you a various perspective. on a similar time as no warfare, including this one, has long gone the way as planned (with the help of ways, which area?), this one is quite making progression. ought to issues nevertheless grow to be WW III? particular, yet perhaps Iran often is the spark for that, or Venezuela. there have been little cases of absolute peace on our planet. Will this be yet another one hundred years warfare (the warfare on terror interior the wider experience), I genuinely wish no longer. it may be frustrating to think of that dislike on the element of the islamo fascists is that solid.

I doubt American troops will be home by May.
But believe me when I tell you that, even if he is sent, he will probably come home fine.
When the war ends, maybe in a couple of years,
he may be sent to a post in the US or Germany, wherever he is needed.
Tell him an old soldier and his family said thanks for his service to the country.
