A template is a document set-up that you can use many times as the basis of a new document. It has the extension .dot.

Often it will have a Company heading and margins and font set to a particular style, so that your letters or invoices or other documents all look similar. Sometimes it will contain macros that perform particular tasks on a new document.

You can either use the templates provided, download ones from Microsoft or other websites or create your own. To create your own (for example, for a letter head). Create a document with the name, address, phone number &c positioned as you like and with the margins and fonts set as you wish. Then go to File, Save As ... and under Files of Type, choose Document Template (.dot) from the drop-down. Give your template a name that describes its purpose and click Save. The template is stored in a special folder by default (though you can save it anywhere). When you select File, New you will be asked to choose a template and the one you created should show in the list.

Word Template, like a Microsoft Word template maybe. Microsoft Word comes with a number of templates but if you need more you can download them on Microsoft's website at:

www.microsoft.com

Go to the downloads section. If that is not the kind of template you are referring to, I apologize. I don't know of any other templates. Hope that helps.

. Generally template is something that establishes or serves as a pattern for reference. so in word processing applications, template is used in place of style sheet.
let me put it in simpler form, it is a ready made style/ pattern of writing( letters, article, resume, all kinds of writing documents)
