there is usually something irritating the skin and your only brushing it off by scratching it. nothing new and interesting. other way is rubbing it or just touching it instead of scratching.

Scratching is really a counter-irritant and diverts your attention. Scratching could be damaging.

It would be a good idea to find the cause for your itching. You don't say exactly which part of your body is itching, but it could be a fungal infection or some other kind of infection or maybe an allergic reaction to something... there are lots of possibilities which should be sorted out before you carry on scratching!

Because you removed the irritant from the spot that was itching. You know those lite lil itches you get on your arms well those are you hairs facing down makeing their tips rub your skin that feels funny and bam its and itch you scratch it that straightens out the hair and presto you're good to go agian.

When you scratch an itch, you don't brush off the itchiness, all that happens is your brain focuses on the reaction of the scratch, therefore forgetting about the itch.

There is a benedryl type anti-itching anti-infection spray you can get that saved me!!!! Especially with mosquito bites this past summer!!

Scratching and rubbing break up the histamine that causes that itchy sensation ,but it is also harmful to the skin. You should you cream benedryl and cortisone(sp?) cream.

apparantly if you put a needle to your skin close to the itch its supposed to stop it. iv never tried to cant tell you if it works all you can do it try
