My cat went to the vet today to get a rabies and booster shot. It has been 4 hours later and he just wants to hide, if you pick him up he cries, he isn’t himself.

First of all, veterinarians don't give the shots in the same spot or area, so 2 shots at the same visit has no effect on the well being of a cat as previously stated.

When you pick up your cat, does he cry when you touch the area where one of the vax was given? or does he just cry in general? The injection site will be sore for about 24 hours after the vaccine was given and some animals even develop fluidy, tender spots at the injection sites. Some cats also will tend to get sleepy for the 24 hours following the vaccinations. Just give him some time for him to calm down and the soreness to go away. If you feel for any reason that he is getting worse or needs to see a vet, please don't hesitate to take him to your vet or call him (even if its an emergancy vet).

Also, as previously stated, some cats are just scared for awhile after their visit to the vet. Just let him hide for awhile and he wil eventually become himself again.

Good luck to you and your kitty!!!!!

He was probably frightened by his vet experience and he can feel a little "punk" for the next 24 hours. If he continues to feel bad and doesn't eat, etc. then you must call the vet right away and report that.

Vets should know better than to give two shots at the same time. It is harder on some kitties than others. Please go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article titled "Vaccination". The articles are in alphabetical order so it is at the end.

Just let your cat relax and talk softly to him. Don't force your attentions on him right now.

He could be mad & scared after having shots. My cat does this every time I take her to the vet.Give him some of his favorite treat food & let him be. Tomorrow he'll be good as new.
If not take him back to the vet for a follow up.

Hope this helps :)

They might scream,

Hey! that smarts!
Ouch! That hurts!
Meow! That's not fair, giving a cat a shot down there!
