The whole thing is pure myth. There is some evidence that Revelations was just one of many stories written at that time in what was basically just a popular genre of the day.
I do fear that enough irrational people will make the end of the world a self-fulfilling prophecy. But I don't fear any kind if "divine" intervention to make it happen.
