The pain isn't as bad as she probably thinks. Most people over work themselves about how bad it will be, so in turn it does hurt a lot or it hurts less than they expect. The trick is to realize the pain and sensations of getting a tattoo are part of the reason some people get them. It won't be that bad and you need to show that to her.

Anyone giving her a tattoo knowing she's used a topical anesthetic is irresponsible and a bad tattoo artist/'professional'

Anyone that will give her topical anesthesia before giving her a tattoo is irresponsible and I would NOT trust them. That is not procedure when doing tattoo's and shouldn't be! You'll be very hard press to find a tattoo artist that is talented and professional that won't laugh at you when you ask that. And they will not tattoo you if youre under topical anaesthesia.

All aside, Anaesthesia deadens the skin and relaxes the muscles; what's your tattoo going to look like after your muscles are taut and useable again? Can you say 'distorted and horrible'

Seriously, if the only way she's convinced to get a tattoo is under anaesthesia then she shouldn't be getting one. It doesn't hurt that bad, geez. What a wimp.

Try Lidocaine patches. she would place 1 on the area she wants tattooed 3 hours prior to the process and remove it right before. Also tell her that after about 5 minutes you no longer feel pain because your brains endorphins kick in and you get a really awesome natural high - its so addictive I can understand why some people are tattooed all over their bodies!

call around to different tattoo shops and see if they offer anything like that. My tattoo artist was telling me about a product that she puts on some people before they get their tattoo, but it needs to be applied at least 3 hours before the tattoo is started. there is also somehing else (which i had) that is put on once the outline is done and it worked really well for me (i got stars in between my shoulders and it hurt like hell) so ya, call around and ask, cause i'm sure most tattoo shops have something like that they can use

Well if you have 23 you should know there is no such thing. If she can't handle the pain I don't think she is ready for a tattoo yet. Tell her to deal with the pain or don't get one

At the tattoo parlor where I go, they have an option to put numbing medicine on it for $10. Call your local parlors to see if they have it.
