This question was removed a few days ago, because well, obviously some people don't like it. It is however a question I wonder about, so I'll ask it again.

The Roman Catholic Church's position on homosexuality: there is nothing wrong with the homosexual orientation, it only becomes wrong when you act upon homosexual urges.

So, my question is: Why would it matter if Jesus or the Pope was homosexual? They both didn't or don't act on it, so I seriously wonder where all the anger on this forum comes from if somebody assumes that Jesus or the Pope could or could have been gay.

You don't understand because your premise is wrong.

Christianity's basic position is that homosexuality is an abomination, because that's what the bible says. The RCC's position is that it's not a SIN until acted upon, but part of man's sinful nature to think the thoughts, so still wrong.

Therefore, for Jesus to have had homosexual thoughts would imply a sinful nature, which is not supported by scripture. The Pope is human, but to the catholics the closest person to god on earth. So it's just a different degree of completely wrong.

it is my understanding that there not only was a gay pope that a female once pulled it off. To suggest that Jesus was gay is rude because although the state of mind is not a hellacious offense it is far from the optimum. Jesus said if in your heart you want your neighbors wife then you have sinned in your heart, and that without ever doing the deed. Having an orientation other than what is prescribed then can be sinful. It is not an unforgivable sin, and that is most likely the catholic Churches position as well, though I am not acquainted with it verbatim.

Someone answered saying that the Bible says homosexuality is an abomination.

Well, first of all, the Bible never uses any such word as "homosexual".

Furthermore, it never that I know of says that, "Being attracted to men is an abomination." It says that "Lying (or in other words, *acting* on the attraction) with a man as with a woman" is the abomination, not just wanting to.

I wanna know why the Bible never says why even acting on it would be wrong, immoral, or an "abomination."

I also wanna know why God doesn't smite all the little fundies that turn more people from him than Satan ever did.

Because most Christians don't believe people are created gay. If the BIble says that homosexuality is completely against God's desire why would Jesus or the Pope be gay? Also, the Bible talks at length about male and female relationships being sexual. The Bible only says that male and male or female and female sexual relationships are wrong.

Remember the old saying, "My God is better than your God?"
The problem isn't the god, it's the competition. The anger comes from the mental conundrum that people have to face up to something being wrong with their God. It is the same as telling a Packer fan that Brett Favre has a baseball in his desk drawer. It doesn't logically detract from his ability in football, but somehow, it attacks the idea of 'perfection' which is only in the mind of the beholder to start with, and that means they might have to THINK.

I'm just sad that they had to live in the closet because of the catholic belief which is incorrect as well as the christian belief...but then again look at all the gay priests in the catholic church that are molesting children.....I would never be either one of these religions. Christians hate gays yet they allow gay priests...whats up with that??? Thats one messed up religion..

I wonder the same thing. I used to work at a book store, and we had a biography of a gay priest. These two ladies saw it on the shelve and commented... "that's an oxymoron, you can't be gay and a priest". I thought it was one of the dumbest remarks I've ever heard.

The church teaches that homosexuality is a seriously disordered personality flaw.

I'm sure God doesn't have flaws lke that, and I doubt the pope does, either.

You mistake anger for common sense.

The pope is an imperfect man. Therefore he could be homosexual.
Of course, he isn't, but it could happen because he is imperfect. But Jesus was perfect, therefore no imperfect tendencies to be immoral.

I suppose it wouldn't matter.

If you make a commitment to god to be celibate, why would it matter from what orientation you are refraining?

If I promised to give up drinking, would it matter if I used to drink wine or beer? It would only matter that I did not drink *at all.*
