I am a concerned parent moving to a new area. I think it's my public right to know if there's a convicted sex offender living next door or close by. I of heard of 'Megans Law' in the States, but what about the UK?

I take your point 'sarciness', but from a parents perspective it's difficult to reconcile the perverted behaviour of (ex) offenders. I think that a system should be developed where a simple 'yes' there is a sex offender living in your street of within a 2 to 3 mile radius of your home, without disclosing their personal details. This would make parents more aware to the possible dangers their children could face in a paticular area.

Not Yet, Preverts get preferential treatment, because the government have prevert mates what finance them
they claim making the register availible would lead to vigilantes beating up paedophiles etc, so what, who cares, they deserve to be beat up every now and again, stop em offending.

Unfortunately not, the sooner we have Megans Law in this country the better all round, I feel so sorry for parents today having to worry about who's in their area, kids can't even play out today like we could, the public has a right to know these things so they can be extra vigilant with their children, today the pervert is protected and the public don't count, I hope the area you go to is OK, maybe the neighbours might be able to shine a light on your concerns for you, good luck.

I would think you had the right to know if any of them lived near you and your children. Where I come from the media usually makes sure we know but when the offenders are under aged it's not easy: Then it comes in handy to have a friend at the police station who keeps you informed.

There isn't and in my opinion there shouldn't be. These people are sick, but they've served their sentence. To have to endure being beaten up for the rest of your life is extreme, even though I realise that preying on the weakest members of society touches a raw nerve.

I dunno- I say if we decide to make these people pay for what they've done- then re-introduce capital punishment... but don't presecute people underhandedly by publishing details to the public.
