hey guys, i just bought a used 94 Cadillac Deville. It had set for over a year with about 3 gallons of gas in it, so I expected it to run a little rough till I got all of the old out. Well its been a week now and its still running rough, sometimes the engine will start to miss badly, sometimes so bad i cant accelerate over 15-20 mph. But ive found that if I pull over and turn the ignition off, then immediatly restart the engine, the missing goes away and the car runs fine the rest of the way to my destination. Does anyone have any insight to why this may be happening? I figured plugs, wires, 02 sensor, a number of things it could be, but why after I restart the engine, it runs fine? Also, i noticed today my cat. convertor has a small split in the side, causing it to be very LOUD, im getting that fixed tomm. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Get you converter replaced, change the fuel filter, check the engine for codes and freeze frame failure records, then re post your question.

Cadillac's require hi test gas. They run like crap on regular gas. If previous owners used regular gas the fuel system could be quite plugged up.

Fill it up with hi test and pour in a can of "Boost" or other fuel system cleaner and go for a long drive - a couple of hundred highway miles. Put in a new air filter while you're at it. You need to run the fuel system clean. I'd follow this up with another 2-3 treatments with each fill up. After that you can go every 2-3 months between treatments.

If you're not prepared to use hi test in this car all the time, you'll have nothing but grief.

My ford f150 did the same thing. It could be a bad computer. My truck's computer got wet and rust formed on the computer's case. Get the computer checked.

I was able to turn off the engine and restart to get out of the problem, but eventually...I could only get it going 20MPH stalling and misfiring all the way to the repair shop. The guys there, said the computer didn't respond.

Replaced the computer and truck's run great ever since. Oh...that is why the previous owner sold me the truck.

It might be the ECM but it could also be a bad connection inside ign sw.
