Well there are 3 men. So one came home and confronted the men that were in masks and were the ones that made the first 2 left turns. =)

he won't be on his street. A short distance means he's going
around the block.

would sound like a baseball scenario. The men in masks would be: umpire, catcher, etc: EXCEPT that you said in the beginning he left "HIS home", meaning the place where he lives. If this is a baseball scenario - you should rewrite it without the "his" - this word makes your position incorrect.
OTHERWISE: Maybe this is a man who lives in the arctic or anatctic region, and the people in masks are his friends, family, or neighbors (because it's cold there).
