It depends on the culture, the sect of Islam, and the woman's individual fashion taste and morality.

Most times, a woman with a black face veil is found in the gulf Arab states.

Colorful square hijabs are found in Malaysia and Turkey.

Shayla (long fabric wrapped around the head), hijabs are found everywhere, as well as the gulf states.
Women in India and Pakistan often wear duppattas--loose veils.

Women of the Shia sect (often found in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon), wear mostly black. But, if you go to Saudi Arabia, most of KSA is Sunni, and they wear mostly black there. That is also due to the culture.

African women may wear a turban or use a big veil to wrap around their entire bodies.

Some women don't wear any covering at all. It does have to do with interpretation, but it also has to do with societal influences, and what is acceptable in that culture. Sometimes you can tell where a woman is from by how she drapes her hijab, or what colors she uses, but most times now, everyone is mixing their styles all over the Islamic world. Now it's usually just up to personal choice. I hope this helps. :)

Muslim Veils Types

The most modern Moslems do not wear a veil. It is usually people who come from a village originally and they bring their orthodoxism into the cities. The veil has been used since biblical times...The Virgin Mary wore one also. I should imagine that it started off because Islam started in the Arab countries where it is sandy and was first used to cover their hair so sand would not get into it in the same way that the men wore turban with a piece to cover their mouths.. The veil could be picked up and cover the mouth and nose during a sand storm as the sand can enter the lungs. It has become a fashion item in many places with women wearing fabulous clothing under the burkha or hijab. Some men are also very domineering and want their women to wear it because they feel other men are looking at their womenfolk. The veil would also protect the women from the hot sun. Didn't we all used to have to cover our heads in church too?It was a sign of respect. I think people living in England and especially London who cover themselves to this extreme, unless they are on holiday from abroad, are being absurd. I sometimes wonder whether they do it to entice rather than hid under it. There is nothing better than mystery to attract attention.Another thing I wonder is....how many ugly women are hiding behind this mask? Its a good way of hiding if your hair is looking awful and you are ugly too.

Some fudamentalist Christian women wear a head covering. Some of those head coverings might look- to a Muslim- about the same as hijab, and others look completely different. A veil over the face is not a Christian tradition at all except by the bride in a wedding ceremony. Head coverings in all religious traditions are only the traditions of humans groups to distinguish themselves from other groups of humans. These things are not and have never been a commandment from God. Christians can quote the apostle Paul and Muslims can cite hadith, but no person can show that God requires a woman to cover her head.

No, they are not because of different branches or sects of Islam. They are a personal taste and an interpretation of how the veil should be used.

Islam simply stipulates that muslim women should cover their hair. The quran does not specify how or with what, it leaves it up to the woman to decide the most appropriate veil.

Some women have a very serious religious interpretation and take it to the extreme and cover their faces. Islam does not tell a woman to cover her face, but she simply decided to take the veil an extra step, hoping this would be exceeding god's expectations. I would also say the origin of the woman can influence the veil, at this level, it is more related to the norms and values of the society or country that this woman belongs to.

It depend on the culture you are in.

I have as many different hijabs as I do outfits. I enjoy matching them to what I am wearing. Some are bright others are more plan.

As you can see most African countries will only cover their hair. While in the Middle East the entire hair and neck is covered and at times the face as well.

Here in the United States you find a wide range as will since so many people come here from all over the world. When I decided to veil I chose a style that was right for me, the hair and neck.

Fashion.
Good looking muslim birds dress western style, put on a bit of weight its down to Burkahs R us and hide the flab, and if they are really ugly and the husband or brother gets embarassed its slot time with the full covering with minimal eye holes.
Actually if as suggested a couple of weeks ago in answers Muslim birds wear nothing under the Burkah, and the blokes wear long robes too it must make a quickie much quicker than struggling out of and back into jeans, perhaps they are at it like rabbits and this no sex outside marriage malarky is just a cover.

Muslim women wear different scarfs for many reasons, some cultural and some due to the strength of their faith, or what they believe to be required.

Basically woman are required to cover everything but their face and hands, although some choose to wear a facial veil (Niqab), some just choose to wear a turban like hat, and some that forget the teachings and choose to say that it doesn't matter if they wear a scarf, only what is in their hearts.

As for the coloring, it goes pretty much the same, more modest muslimas choose dark solids colors, while others choose brightly colored or patterned scarfs.

For me, I like to wear the longer style scarfs in darker colors, but when I am at work it is not feasible, so I wear a shorter scarf, still covering everything but face and hands as Allah ordered.
