All dogs shed, but if you're referring to the tenacious, 'sticky' kind, then you'll want to avoid FURRY dogs. At least long-haired dogs' hair is easier to clean up (they don't stick as bad).
The problem is, hairy dogs require a lot of grooming attention: maltese, bichons, yorkies, lhasa apso, shihtzu, poodle, etc.
Barking is something you'll have to train a lil more. Bichons are small, don't shed much, very very VERY people friendly, but have a watch-dog instinct and will bark at every noise, for example.
Friendliness is somewhat genetic, which is why it's very wise to purchase a dog from a reputable breeder. You can check out the parents' temperment and ask the breeder what kind of socializing the pup has had.

A Staffordshire bull terrier has long been called the nanny dog. They have a slick smooth coat and need little brushing and shedding is low to moderate. They are between 25 and 35 lbs generally. The AKC temperament standard: Temperament From the past history of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, the modern dog draws its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection for its friends, and children in particular, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, makes it a foremost all-purpose dog. The UK Kennel Club Temperament Standard: Characteristics Traditionally of indomitable courage and tenacity. Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children. Temperament Bold, fearless and totally reliable. That's the kind of dog I would like with my kids. Really small dogs can be easily hurt by kids rough housing and many are not very kid tolerant.

a cockapoo.....it is a mix between a cockerspanial and a poodle. I have one. He is really cute, he doesn't shed at all and he doesn't bark unless there is someone at the door or something. Also, they are easilly trained so if you don't want him to bark at all you can train them. He is the sweetest dog ever.

The Bichon Frise is a mostly non-shedding dog. The poodle crosses are also nice. Smart dog, not too yappy, especially if trained properly. Affectionate. Will need regular grooming though. If it is an allergy problem, this breed is your best pet along with good housekeeping habits. You can also use the Febreze allergy product on your furniture and restrict the places you allow the dog to sit. Good luck.

How about 2 out of 3?? Lhasa Apsos do not shed, are super friendly....but they do bark. They are a terrific watch dog with incredible hearing. They were bred to be the guardians of the Buddhist Temples in Lhasa (Tibet). By far my favorite small breed. Oh...and I totally agree with the last poster.... the Mini Schnauzer is a good choice, too!!

POODLES AND MOST OF THE TERRIERS DON'T SHED, BUT THEY'LL COST YOU AT THE GROOMERS EVERY 6-8 WEEKS. MOST SMALL DOGS BARK NON-STOP. THE ONLY DOG I CAN PERSONALLY VOUCH FOR IS THE COCKER/POODLE X. I'VE HAD 2. NEITHER SHED, NEITHER BARKED NEEDLESSLY, BOTH WERE VERY LOVABLE, AND BOTH HAD TO VISIT THE GROOMERS EVERY 6-8 WEEKS.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/zLXs2
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Yorkie. They love kids and attention. You can keep their hair short so you do not have to brush it every day. They bark until they learn their environment. Their hair is similar to ours, so they don't shed. You can find some to adopt on Petfinder's.com. They are from rescue groups.
