Since I'm 14, I suppose I'll answer.
The meals you described are easy and cheap, yes. To some, even delicious. But they do not fit into the "healthy" category at all. They are loaded with calories, fat, and sodium without really providing any nutrients. I'd try making some spaghetti (chunky tomato sauce, noodles, hamburger meat, Italian spices), salad, and bread, as an example. You'll be shocked at what healthier (go for the generic brands, they're just as tasty!) foods you can buy for the price of many prepackaged frozen foods. The internet is a great source of recipes and cooking help if you're stumped about anything.
And I'm sorry about this, but your husband's dinner ideas sound absolutely repugnant. Between the both of yours, I would still choose your own.

Honestly...your choices are insanely lacking in vitamins and heavy on sodium and calories. Too much powdered cheese, starches, and flavoring are not healthy for your children.
As far as taste goes, your husband's suggestions sound disgusting and I can not imagine any child would gladly eat peppers, sauerkraut, liverwurst or beets.

I thought about your question some more last night. Get frozen chicken in bulk, dark meat is fattier but cheaper. You can make mushroom chicken or teriyaki chicken and rice. Mushroom chicken is just baking cream of mushroom soup, a little milk and the chicken. Both can be baked for about 30-40 minutes on 350 degrees. I once fed 6 people teriyaki chicken, vegetable tempura rice and salad for less than $5 a head.

I grew up as a teen in the late 50's (1959) and knew about right and wrong. The kids smoked mary jane back then, also banana and orange peels dried, Heroin was big. The 1960's brought more revolution with all the bands of the Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cream, 3 Dog night, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan all tuned in, tuned out on LSD. many did hard core drugs as well as cocaine. Worked many concerts as an officer in the 70-80's and talk about stone heads and deadheads. I ran with a rough group who of 12 of us 10 ended up in jail and then prison. I was with them but was never there when the fights and gang activity took place, I had to be home at 12am. My dad said your running with a tough bunch, I said i know but we have clean fun, he said promise me if you get arrested you will call me, I asked my dad YOU Gonna come and get me out? No I will know where you are and can go to bed. Mom stayed at home till i was 15 and then i got to babysit sister as both parents worked for their SS. Some kids today are really in touch with what to do and get along, some are like HS what do I do Now. and others like in my time were just clueless. Working in the prisons for the last 21 years, the old time con was fun, the con kids now a days have no respect for themselves or anyone else. But thank God it is as was always The smart kids, the mediocre kids and the knuckleheads.

You should ask your own kids what they like and don't like. Your husbands beef, noodles , soy sauce sounds okay but when I make this, (besides using rice instead of noodles) I also add some veggies...usually onions and frozen peas...plus some beef boullion and spices (Cayenne, sage and basil). Hot dogs are great economically but shouldn't be a frequent food. Instead of frying ham I boil it and this keeps it moist. Anyways, just keep in mind that you should try to keep the fat and sodium low and add veggies to whatever you can. Buy frozen or fresh vegetables...they are far healthier than canned ones.

WOW, um, I am 18 yrs, a senior in HS, and I have pretty open tastes.... BUT even I would not eat all of what your husband wrote.... why don't you either 1. do your list during weeks days when your schedule is busy and his on the weekend or 2. do his one week and yours another.... maybe he was just trying to broaden your children's tastes..... lol.... if he wants to, try sneaking it into the food in with other things, I know that's how my mom did it. I don't know what age your children are, but if they are young, most children like stick with the "norm" - I work in preschool 3X's a week, so I know. Maybe your husband thinks that what you have listed is all children's food (assuming your children are young) and that's why he think's that it's not enjoyable..... GOOD LUCK!!!

If your husband is doing the cooking and cleaning up after, let him make one of those disgusting meals. See how many leftovers there are because the kids don't want seconds. Next night make one of yours. no contest. Those things he picked out are gross and I'm the mom of 2, not a teen

wow. daddy's choices are icky--especially for little kids.... and little kids who get gas...
a better question: who's COOKING the food--and doing the dishes/???... and going shopping for the food???
try adding some veggies and fruit to those... definitely. I know your on a budget, but look at the nutrition too. The sodium in both choices is very high.

I think this sort of competition will only make one or both of you angry. Just tell him it doesn't matter.
If your him, and you need to hear it from somone who is not your wife here goes:
It doesn't matter who has the best ideas.
On a side note: Is that actually edible?
