I believe so. I'm almost certain it can cause cancer of the colon, and probably rectal, as well. The reason is that it acts like a plaster on the walls of the colon; which, should have flora on the walls, that act sort of like fingers that help the feces along through the colon to the exit point. Because bread made with white flour has no roughage--no fibre, there is no traction against the fingers (flora), and can't move along through the colon, so gets plastered against the walls of the colon. That means the walls are smooth; therefore, nothing else can move along to the exit either; and meat remains in the colon and rots and putrifies there, and causes ulcers on the colon which eventually become cancerous.
I suffered with colitis (inflamation of the colon) for 10 years before reading a little homemade booklet I bought for 50 cents in a health food store that explained this situation. It spoke of the 4 white devils: white bread, white flour, white rice and white sugar. Also, that I should avoid dairy products. It said I should eat only 100% whole grain bread (if it don't say "100% Whole Wheat"--it ain't."), 100% whole grain flour, brown rice and brown sugar and lots of raw vegetable salads; which I did, and in one weekend I got rid of the colitis doctors had been giving stomach relaxers and tranquilizers for, for 10 years! Lots of money down the drain, only getting worse year after year.
My chronic bronchitis also left me after make the switch to healthier eating.
Doctors are either ignorant of this or, if not, don't want us to know this, because it's money out of their pockets. Not in their best interest for us to become educated about our own bodies, nutrition, how to care for our own health through preventative measures. Also, lousy for the drug companies who thrive off our ill health.
Needless to say, I've been a health food nut ever since.
So glad you asked.
Western or allopathic medicine treats the body mechanically--like a clock. They treat with drugs for different parts of the body.
Alternative or wholistic medicine treats the body wholistically--what's good for the colon is also good for the bronchial tubes and the rectum, and every other part of the body, as well.
The Father of Medicine, Hypocrates said: "Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food." Didn't say anything about drugs!
I suffered with chronic bronchitis and chronic colitis all through my 20s. Now, I'm in my 60s, and haven't had a problem with either one since my 20s.

I'm not sure about rectal cancer, but white bread is not really very healthy for you. All it is is a bunch of fluff that sticks to the roof of your mouth. NASTY!!!

Fiber helps prevent colon & rectal cancer, so eating lower-fiber white bread instead of higher-fiber whole grain breads will increase your chances, yes. It's more of a case of lack of prevention than it is a case of cause.

A higher fiber bread, like whole wheat, provides more bulk and helps cleanse your bowels.

I don't know if any studies have been made on that one (if so, the studies have been made by white bread manufacturers, and you KNOW what they would conclude) but let's face it, any processed food ain't good for you.

Eat brown bread.
The bleach they use for bleaching the wheat is the cause.
yup.
