I just started a few days ago. I'm 5'2" and I have about 115-120 pounds on a small frame. I know I could stand to lose a few pounds but I don't want to, I'm happy with my weight. I'm just doing this for my health. I timed my first mile on Satuday and I got 11:20, and I'm hoping to get it down to at most 9 minutes although I don't have a goal for when I want to do this by. Is there anything I need to make sure I do, like get enough water? I take a multivitamin every day and I stay away from junk food. I'm not on any medications and I just had a bunch of blood tests done a few months ago for another reason, and I don't have any illnesses. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or I need to change?

Somebody,

Good for you for looking after your health!

Running is great exercise. Here are a few tips for you:

Make SURE you have good running shoes.

Run in different areas (track, street, parks, hills).

Increase your distance weekly. When you increase your distance (or run hills), slow your pace. When you go back to running your mile, your pace will be faster.

When you increase your distance, do it in small increments, or nasty things will happen to your body.

Keep a log of your running. You'll be surprised at how quickly you progeress. www.NikeRunning.com/Training is one that I use.

Always listen to your body. If you have pain (not muscle aches) or blisters, find out what the problem is or it will get worse.

You set your own goals. You work at your pace.

if you want to decrease you mile time you need to do two things different, when you are doing your training run a couple of short sprints (about 4 at 100m and 4 at 40m) then run two or three miles at a slower pace, by doing this you will become faster and gain more endurance than just running a mile, also you can run hills or just around your neighborhood, running on softer surfaces such as sand is also more beneficial than running on a track, try doing the sprint then distance technique i wrote above 5 times a week followed by a day of rest and then time your mile, you should see results a whole lot quicker

also 9 minutes still isnt that great of a mile, the presidential test for a 14 year old mile is (i think 7:20) which i think all kids have to do in school if you already havent done so, so once you do get your 9 minute mile and gain a little confidence, dont quit set your next goal and keep workin hard

also, if and when you get stomach cramps, dont stop, grap the entire muscle with your hand, lean back a little and breath heavy, this will stretch the muscle and the cramp will go away

hope this helps and good luck

First things first
you may have a food allegy to something you eat that pack on the weight
I would suggest you do a cleanse
The most effective cleanse I know of is called the master cleanser
a.k.a. the lemonade diet
if you look up master cleanser on the web you'll find it
I last did it in the summer of 2003 for 21 days and I lost 50 Pounds without working out. It takes alotr of discipline but I think you can do anything you are committed to doing.
yopu can start by doing it for ten days as that is the minimum
It's not recomended you go past 40 days
ten days weill do you good and ellow your body to elliminate all the toxins that have been stored in your body *** fat and undigested food
once you read the literature on the MC you'll have a much better idea of what I speak of.

I think you're doing fine. Already you have the right mindset and want to improve and that makes all the difference in the world when it comes to staying motivated to exercise. The only advice I have is to keep your training consistent. The fact that you run everyday alone will help you improve just by doing it. At this point consistency is more important than the times you finish in and once you build up your conditioning, the speed will come as a result so remember to pace yourself.

Also, I find it very healthy that you can diet and exercise without obsessing about losing weight. I too feel that it is more important to be in shape than to lose weight and people seem to put too much emphasis on pounds and calories than overall health which is far more important.

DUDE. Running is the best for cardio (15-50 min I like to go by miles and I run 1-10+ mi or 20-40 mi per week- this is more advance running though) Do a hard day then easy day to befit more and injury prevention. Then do abs (i.e. planks/crutches) everyday, and lower body every other day (i.e. leg lifts) . Also do upper body every other day (i.e. push ups) Do the lower/upper body on alternating days. Don't worry about your weight, just do want you want to do as long as you stay healthy, (eating- healthy, sleeping, and drinking lots of water) you'll stay in good shape :)

That sounds great. I'm almost a doctor (4th year medical student) and can tell you that there's nothing wrong with what you're doing. I'm glad that you keep things in perspective (not wanting to be super-skinny, etc.) 11:20 is great for a first mile. Keep practicing, don't be too hard on yourself, and I'm sure you'll reach your goal. Taking a multivitamin isn't really necessary if you have a proper diet, but it won't hurt you either. You sound like a nice kid... take it easy.

Good, well fitting running shoes and then just run but, don't overdo it.Personaly I prefer walking, there is far less stress on the joints, there is good, not so good and bad excersise.Getting enough oxygen into the bloodstream is very important so drink enough water and after you finish,a healthy meal with fruit to replace the electrolytes you may have lost by sweating, many sports drinks contain MSG and other chemicals that may not be good for you.

You do not need to change anything, you do not need to take vitamins, unless you are not eating full meals, drink water throughout the day, eat a healthy breakfast, and dinner, and snack throughout the day (healthy snacks)
