Make sure she is wearing a t least 14K gold earrings - or surgical steel - that way you can rule out the metal causing it.
You should not clean the ears with ointment - use something like Bactine - this will draw out the infection and keep the ear dry and clean. You can clean her ears with the earring out - and also clean off the earrings in Bactine before putting them back in.
I use a little shot gass or something and clean the earrings really well, you can let them soak too.
Daily upkeep and good hygeine are also going to help keep her ears healthy.
If you try a lot and nothing seems to work - see your Allergist or Doctor - could be an allergy.
Good luck

I am assuming you're an Aussie because your question came up in the Australian questions section. The best thing I've found for healing piercing infections is this stuff called Lucas's Pawpaw Ointment. It is miracle stuff. You can get it from most chemists, supermarkets and health food stores in Australia, it comes in a red tub and costs about $9 for a small tub which will last ages. I use it on my ears when they get infected and it heals them within a few days. You just rub it on and around the infected area whenever it is sore or dry. It's totally natural too. My boyfriend used it on his nipple piercing when that got a little infected and it worked a treat. You can also use pawpaw ointment on burns, nappy rash, insect bites, chapped lips... It's amazing. It usually stops mosquito bites from itching too. Anyway it always works for me, you should give it a go.

First, what is the material of the earring? I had the same problem in just one ear and found out later I was allergic to nickle, but only in that ear. Try using nickle free earrings or 14 kt gold (however, I personally cannot wear these) and in the mean time coat the posts in neosporin and clean her ears with peroxide. When she's not wearing earrings keep oinkment on it.
Whatever you do, don't just leave it in. I did that before I knew what the problem actually was and ended up having to pry the backing off of my ear because blood had completly covered the backing and crusted it to my ear. It was very painful.

it could be possible she is allergic 2 some metals, my daughter can wear only gold. clean with rubbing alcohol twice a day and make sure you twist the ear ring when u clean. u may even need 2 take the affected ear ring out and soak in alcohol for 10 minutes then reinsert. and u can use neosporin oint before u reinsert the ear ring. it will heal up in no time. good luck!

try dial anti bacterial soap, the kind that comes in the pump. Thats what was recomended at a peircing place that did our ears. It works great. Also if it keeps
getting infected could be a skin allergie to the metal in the earring.
Good Luck

mine do that a lot too, and ive had mine peirced for about ten years. i take my earrings out for about two days and put rubbing alcohol on them about three times a day. I usually stick my earring through (not to prevent it from closing) to get the blood and stuff out if there is part of the infection in there that does not come out.

Ears heal rather quickly, she might be allergic to the earrings. Try different types of metals. I can't wear any type of earring because of that, but I have many other piercings that have been fine without any type of special metal, so ears must be more sensitive.

If she's allergic to metals, get stainless surgical steel earrings. They are made of the same grain of metal used in surgical supplies, and are fairly tolerant to any infection.
To "Ozz": Maybe there should be a law against posting before you know proper grammar.

Sounds like she's allergic to the earrings. I user lots of alcohol to clean my ears and my earrings before I put them back on. Good Luck.
