My crazy friend, Tiffany-Ann, says that she saw this thing on Oprah about how we don't really digest meat, but it sits in your stomach and rots away. She also says that ppl who eat a lot of meat can carry around pounds of it in their colon. Is this for real? (Please say no cuz I love steak!)

That is not true at all. Meat is digested just like anything else. Read a nutrition book if you want more information.

There is some truth to this. Meats in general take longer for our bodies to digest in that way she is right, it does rot in your stomach. Because meats stay longer in our system, we can carry pounds of it in our colon depending on the amount we eat. Don't allow this to change your tastes. You've been doing it this long and nothing has happened!

No, it does not. It's broken down by digestive enzymes into amino acids that are then reassembled in the body to form new tissue or, for those doing Atkin's, broken down further to be burned as fuel. It's true, there's a downside to eating meat (even fish) but it is complete protein, something hard to get from a vegetable diet.

It is true! Your body cannot fully digest meat, so it sits there. When a cow or chicken is killed, its brain send out molecules and toxins through the bloodstream, which are called cadaverine and putrescine. You can check it out through a search at http://www.wikipedia.org

These molecules and toxins immediately start the decomposing process in meat. Therefore, when you buy and cook the meat, it already has the molecule and toxin in it. You are eating meat that has already started to decompose at the butcher shop !!! Then since your body cannot digest all the meat, it is sent to your colon where it stays there for a couple of days rotting even more. It is disgusting... I know, I eat meat also, but I try to eat it not that often and in very, very small portions and chew each and every piece really small so that it won't stay rotting in my stomache.

Sorry for the disgusting explanation, but you asked...

ALL food passes through your body in about 24 hours. NO food including meat, has much time to rot. Now it is true that we dont digest meat easily especialy beef but proper preperation helps. I only know this because my Father recently died of Liver and Kidney failer caused by Illnessess when he was young. He could only eat 2 ounces of meat a day because it builds up toxins in your body and without a liver to remove them they build up. The fact that Meat has toxins in very tiny amounts really doesnt hurt you but your body can build up these toxins over time if your liver isnt working. Basicly proper balance of diet isnt a bad idea for anyone. I love steak too. I just try not to eat to much at 1 time. (When my father died they didnt find 5 pounds of rotting meat in his bowels). Thats just another urban legend probably invented by vegetarians.

I completely agree with ZURDITA, it is true.

To those about the Oprah episode when this was mentioned, it was the one when she had a series of doctors on talking about foods and what they do to and in your body.

And aside, beef, out of all meats holds the least amount of nutrients a for your body.

meat digests in your stomach. it's actually vice versa. Plants don't digest in your stomach because thye have a cell wall, but they don't rot.
Also, unless this info is coming out of the mouth of a doctor as in MD, don't believe it.

First of all Oprah is not a doctor and most people who say this sort of stuff are not doctors either. I am a doctor and the answer is no.

Meat is digested like other food, not held in your digestional tract. Just some crazy vegan trying to scare you. We are designed to be omnivores, eating from all nutritional food sources. It is UN-natural to force yourself to be a vegetarian and should you choose to do so you have to be careful to get enough protein and other nutrients in your diet that you would lack eating only vegatables.

For your legs, try something like running, cycling or dancing to build up the muscles. To keep a flat somach then the running will work, and also do sit ups and swimming.
