Goldwave - www.goldwave.com

Or... did you know you can do simple music cutting in Windows Movie Maker?

Start Movie Maker, Click File > Import into Collections...

Choose your music file, such as an mp3, and click Import. It will be shown as a big music symbol in the middle window. Drag it down to the timeline and drop it on the Audio/Music timeline.

Now click the play button in the inline player on the right. When it gets to where you want to cut it, click the pause button. Now click the cut button (next to the little camera button). You now have two separate pieces of music which can each be dragged around on the Audio/Music timeline.

This is a bit crude, but it works!

The Goldwave will need quiet some learning - it isn't easy.

This is quite simple, but takes a little time. What I did when I wanted to make a mp3 into a wav ringtone, but shorter was:

Take the mp3 and convert it to wav using a converter (DB PowerAMP - search yahoo or google) and then open it in Sound Recorder (Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder). You can chop everything else except the part that you want and save it as a seperate file (make sure you don't just save, but SAVE AS because you don't want to overwrite the original). Then open the original file again and click on "Edit" and "Insert File." Choose the file that you saved and it will put that part at the beginning. Save this as the original file again and convert it back to MP3.

Like I said, it's an easy way (and cost efficient since all the software is free) to get it done.
