My Research, There are no passages in the Bible which state that Christ made His church the infallible interpreter of His Word.

But Catechism says, "How can you get the true meaning of the Bible? You can get it only from God's official interpreter of the Church."

What?!

The Bible says, "For we write nothing to you that you do not read and understand." 2 Cor. 1:13

We are commanded and exhorted: grow in knowledge (2 Pet. 3:18), study (2 Tim. 2:15), exercise senses (Heb. 5:14), search (Acts 17:11), receive (James 1:21), read (Eph. 3:3-4), desire it (2 Pet. 2:2), let it unfold (Psalm 119:130), meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1:2) hear it read (Rev. 1:3), have it preached (2 Tim. 4:2-4; 1 Pet. 4:11), test what is said (1 John 4:1; Matt. 7:15-16), prove all things (1 Thess. 5:21).

The inspired writers taught that we most certainly can understand the Scriptures.

What is wrong with the Catechism?

The pope isn't the only interpreter of the Bible; if that became the case it may be inner maximum interpretation which in 2 Peter a million:20 says there should not be. The Church has the authority of biblical interpretation, by way of fact because it says in a million (2?) Tim 3:15 , the Church is the bulwark and beginning place of actuality. in the Pauline epistles, it is sparkling there are perfect and incorrect procedures of analyzing the Bible, and the authority comes right down to Apostolic custom (a million Cor 11:2, 2 Thess 2:15; 2 Thess 3:6; Jn 21:25; Acts 20:35; 2 Peter 3:15-17). Even those of the Early Church, jointly with Origen (c. 230 advert - formerly the time of Constantine) pronounced it became needed to have custom: "The coaching of the Church has certainly been exceeded down by an order of succession from the Apostles, and continues to be in the church homes even to the modern-day time. That on my own is to be believed as actuality that's thru no potential at variance with ecclesiastical and apostolic custom." (popular Doctrines a million, preface, 2). As for the place the beginning of the pope comes from, i'm particular many have already quoted Isaiah 22:19-23 and Matthew sixteen:13-20 and defined the parallel. notwithstanding, this would not make Peter the only interpreter of the Bible, however the pope, the vicar of Christ, who speaks on His behalf. The Church is the only interpreter of the Bible. you're wonderful in asserting that faith is meant to be a non secular bond between you and God, notwithstanding it quite is not so common to be with God. he's all efficient, all amazing, all understanding, inexpressible divinity, suitable holiness, and previous description. What are you? And who're you to interpret God's holy be conscious? Are you organic adequate to declare "it is actuality!"? do you comprehend the recommendations of God which you will say what's His private recommendations?

Now you are realising the heracy taught by the Catholic church.

They've been doing it for 2000 yrs and if not for the reformation we'd all be lost.
The reformation btw was when people who could actually read (since most couldn't) the Bible and realized that the teaching of the Catholic church were flat out unBiblical. This happened about 400 yrs ago i think.

Do a search on Martin Luther. Not King Jr (though he was a great guy) just Martin Luther - who founded the "Lutheran" church, and who Dr. King's father was probably named after.

catholics believe that Jesus comissioned St Peter as the first leader of te Church as told in Matthew.
the pope is a man who has dedicated his life;s work to the bible and God's teachings. A pope can make imfalliable binding pronouncements under sertian conditions. infalliability doesn't mean that absolutely everything a pope says is free from error. all Christians believe (or should) that God protected Holy Scripture from error, by means of inspiration, even though sinful falliable men wrote it. We catholics also believe that God the Holy Spirit protests His church and its head from error (Jn 14:16) by means of imfalliablity even though sinful imprefect men are involved. the heirachy of the Rcc is similar to that of the Episcopalians, other protestant denominations, Church of God in Christ, AME, First Baptist - we just call the heriachy different titles. these people are to live and pray and study God's Word and the effect it is to have one modern life. There are numerous things that, while not in the bible literally, are there figuritively. look at this method for discussing religion -- do you really think the Bible would have to ssay that we are to use the internet to get His word out?!?!? no it doesn't, nut it does say that we are to preach to all who have ears to hear or in this case - eyes to read.

while yes we have been taught that we can understand Scriptures - we all understand them differently based upon our life experiences.

No the pope is not infallible. And as for interpreting the scriptures. All people who have tried throughout the ages have made mistakes and had to go back and re-interpret. The best interpeters of the Scriptures so far as christians are concern are the Seventhday Adventist. All of what they show are bilically based. Hey God Bless. Nice discussing the topic w/you.

No, the true Vicar of Christ, that is the Holy Spirit is the only infallible interpreter of the Bible. Any man who claims that authority is a type of the anti-Christ that seeks to get people to worship a man who tries to take the place of Jesus here on earth.

NO! He definitely is not!! We can understand the Scriptures. We just have to read and study with the Lord's help. Pray before and ask for His help in understanding and end with prayer.

What is wrong with the Catechism is that it's just plain wrong. I know I'm going to get flack for that statement, but that's just plain true.

to answer that you should really search out and research the history of the catholic church, if you go back to 3 rd century ad you would learn that constatine merged the roman empire, which was in major decline at that time, with the chiristian faith as we now call it. it in a sense became the new world power. in doing this he merged a lot of the pagan tradions of the time, cantonizing them and adappting them into the roman catholic church. using his study of the scriptures avaible at that time to back up what he was doing. a prime example of that is the celebration of chirst birthday on dec 25.. even to this day in modern day Israel it is to cold to keep the sheep outside at night in the winter. yet that was what was taking place at the time of christs birth. Sceintist have estimated the weather to have been around zero F on the night that Jesus was born. Genaloligy points to mid october to being the birth of christ. Yet if you research the bible out their are only two birthdays mentioned the bible that where ever celebrated one was in the chapter of ester . for a pagan king. the other was when jesus was live and John the Baptist was beheaded for. Jesus never said to celebrate his birth, but to remember his death. Yet millions claim Christmas as the celebration of christ birth. down to this day millions listen to the pope, yet jesus when he was alive condemned the religous leaders of the jews as being followers of tradtion, rather then teachers of god. jesus said many would come in his name claiming to represent him. but few would find the narrow and cramped road to life. the catholic church is what it as always being the offical leader of tradtion, not true followers of christ and what he taught well he walked the earth

The Church is the Bride of Christ. "What you bind on Earth shall be bound in Heaven and what you loosen on Earth shall be loosened in Heaven". In fact being that it is a marriage the two shall become one WE ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST
