I have S-video connections on both my laptop and my TV and therefore use an S-video cable. Its a round looking connection with a number of pinholes down inside the opening. Bought the cable at Best Buy.
Go to Control Panel to configure
Click on Display
Click on Settings - Click Advanced
Click on Displays tab and choose the TV
I also bought a cable with a stero mini-plug on one end (like your headphones have) that splits into two RCA pin type plugs on the other end which I run from my headphone jack on the PC to unused stereo input on my Receiver which transfers the sound from th PC to my audio system.

That depends MOSTLY on your TV.
Some video cards have a TV output built in also.

Some tv's can be used as monitors and have appropriate connections. If not, check your video card outputs.

If neither can connect to the other directly, there are several products that act as an "interface" device and let the PC drive the TV with the correct signals.

Simply install one between the video output on PC, and appropriate input to TV.
