prune juice, pear juice (because it taste better) or try raisins. (I have also used Fletcher's Castoria which isn't a medication but it is in the section where laxatives are. My daughter had that problem alot, and just one spoonful would help get her back to normal....she said it tasted like root beer.)

Apples, Apple juice and Applesauce. try to give Apple Juice on a daily bases. If the child is drinking lots of milk that will do it. Make sure the child has a BM, often, It is awful to have a bowel obstruction, which is cause by constipation. Good luck.

My 2 1/2 year old has the same problem frequently. I've tried prune juice, but she wouldn't drink it. My doctor also recommeded pear juice. Works great and tastes much better then prune juice.
Also, baby size suppositories work well too.

Make an appointment with the doctor. It's probably nothing, just your body getting back to normal (hormones, breastfeeding, etc.) but since you have a history of complications it is best to get checked out - just for peace of mind. I've had 3 babies and I remember it took awhile for my period to arrive, but we are all different. Good luck and congratulations.

Prune juice is very effective, but you might have trouble getting him/her to drink it. Applejuice also softens things up, but it might take more.
