Pledging allegiance is not worship. I'm not being mean but look up the words worship and allegiance and you'll find there different. Do not post questions about your theories of what we are and are not supposed to do (just telling you this now because chances are you are ignorant in the matter of Christianity or not well informed.) People who are patriotic and Americans pledge allegiance to the flag because the flag symbolizes all the hardships that America had to go through before becoming a united nation under God. It is also not required for children to do it, maybe your teachers make you do it but truthfully it's not required and they can't force you. It's been done for so long children just naturally do it, they are not worshiping the flag.

It is just a symbol of America and the freedom we have
here. I love the flag....it is beautiful.....and it really means
so much. But, do I bow down and worship it? No. It is
not a God or an Idol. You trying to trip up us Christians?
Well, not this one, you didn't. So, now I hope you understand.
I've never seen the fact that children learn the "Pledge" in
school ever hurt them or cause them any trouble. Most all
the children in the past learned it and life was good. Only
recently when people question everything good and even
patriotism, has this caused problems between our own
citizens, like you.

Pledging allegiance to a flag is saying what side you are on. You are saying that I will stand up for the United States of America.

Aligning yourself with a country is not the same as WORSHIPING a country (or flag). I would suggest psychiatric help for anyone that worships a flag or even a country. I haven't known of anyone that has made a country or a flag their god.

Many people are more likely to make TV or movie stars or sports heroes or musicians or work or money or fame or power or themselves (self-righteousness) their gods. Those are the people that don't want to align themselves with our country because it is too far down their list of priorities.

Figure it out.

It's OK to pledge to support this nation. No one is pledging allegiance to a piece of cloth. However, any pledge that a Christian gives has to be in the context of falling behind absolute loyalty to God. If the nation told people to bow down and worship the President then a Christian wouldn't do that. If the nation told Christians to deny Jesus then a Christian wouldn't do that. But as long as this nation doesn't order it's citizens to disobey God's laws then Christians can support it. As to children in school, I don't think any child should be forced to say anything that they don't want to say. But I'm all for following in the traditions of this country by acknowledging God just like we do on our money and in our constitution where it talks about our rights coming from our Creator. That's why the pledge says "one nation UNDER God". As long as this nation is under God we should support it.

i am not christian, but I still feel as if I can answer this question. i dont think that you are WORSHIPPING the flag, but more of pledging or praising if u will, to it. the flag is a mere symbol of freedom, and patriotism, and bravery and all those themes of america for example. u are pledging allegiance to america, through a very symbolic thing to us, the flag. and it is not longer required. i understand that many do not approve of pledging allegiance. in that case, simply do not do it, without making a big deal. also, u may wish to warn the teacher beforehand. :) good question

Pledging aleigence to a country is not the same thing as worshiping an idol. I do not pray to the flag. i do not think a flag can save me or cleanse me of my sins.
The pledge of Alegience is exactly that.

Showing respect and honor to your country is not idolatry or worship. It shows pride and loyalty to your homeland. I salute the flag and say "One nation UNDER God..." To me that means that my country is under, not over my God, and under His protection and as long as it represents good and has laws based on His moral precepts. If you don't teach children to honor their country when they are young, how do you think they will ever learn the value and importance of their civic duties and patriotism.

Christians should be patriotic because in the Bible, especially the old Testament,it says many times that everyone should remain faithful to their own land and peoples. However that has nothing whatsoever to do with worshiping their country or their flag.

You're just pledging "allegiance" to the country, not worshiping it. I didn't know they still said the Pledge of Allegiance in school. I do remember when I was a kid, and we did say the pledge every morning, there was one girl in my class who didn't say it because of religion. Some religions see it as worship, but it really isn't.

Dictatorships are the only countries that currently have "Pledges of allegence" with the exception of the United States of America. Patriotism and pledges are not the same. The "under god" was added in the 50's it was originally One Nation Indivisible.

God does say that we are to respect our figures of authority, and I don't believe when we say the pledge, we our worshipping the flag, we are agreeing to follow the rules of our country under God, so God always comes first.
