There are certain things to consider with the type of breed you are chosing besides just that they are a good watch dog. Consider children, available time for the dog, house training etc. My golden retriever/german shephard cross was a great watch dog but she had the gentleness of the golden retriever. A german shephard is a general safe bet but just be careful around children. They can be agressive. Good luck.

German Shepherds are great watch dogs but it all depends on the size of dog you want. Poodles can even be great watch dogs as far as warning you but they can bark at almost anything and that can get annoying. Hounds are very protective but usually won't bark to warn you until almost the last minute if there were to be trouble. I am leary of pit bulls since they are so unpredictable. Also Labradors are great dogs all around.

My father bred dogs for this purpose. He bred German Shepard's, which are great watch dogs but still good with children. And Dobermans, but the dobermans are not as good with children. Both breeds are very loyal to their owners.
Hope this helps. Some people prefer Rottweiler's, but they have been shown to turn on their owners. And Pitt Bulls are known to be aggressive, and sometimes hard to control.

Definitely a multigrain bread...cause of the sharp poky grains...it can be even more abrasive if you toast it. Personally I find moldy bread a good alternative due to the pungent odor!

lol you mean breed. But neways I think German Shepard is a good watch dog. But you can basically train any dog to be a watch dog they all dont have to be big but they shouldnt be small.

Well, if you just want a dog to bark, then go with dachsunds, for they bark at EVERYTHING! If you want a dog that is "scary" to burglars, go with a Doberman Pinscher, pitbull, Labrodor, Retreiver, any big dog. Burglars stay away from houses with dogs. Period. So, any dog would work, really. If I were you, I'd choose a dog that you'd love.

We have a BOXER, he's 7 mos old, and he is very protective of me and my one year old son....VERY, but he is very good with people whenever he senses that everything is OK but if hes unsure he makes a scene about it. I think it's so cute that he does that. He hasnt ever had to attack anyone but Im sure if one of the neighbor guys that we (us and our dog) have issues with, came into our yard or up to one of us he prob. would get after it. And Boxers are very loyal to thier owners.
