Simplicity, dear.
You ask questions that are not easy to respond to. So, they ignore it like they didnt see it. Much like why they beleive in a God in the first place - it is the simplest way to go about living a life...attribute everything - both good and bad - to an almighty God. That way, none of it is your responsibility.

Generally all these "examples you've made" are NOT in the same question. So let's take it one at a time:
1. God said homosexuality is wrong.
I do not as a Christian condemn homosexuals, my sis is gay and
I love her, but she knows where I stand on that lifestyle. We are our brothers keepers so as good Christians we should try to help point people in the right direction.
2. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
Even all of the US states have laws reguarding this, and it is one of the acceptable reasons for divorce in the Bible. Liberalism pushes this under the rug making it OK, for example the great Pres. Clinton. I've been married 11 years and hold my wife above all other women in all "ways".
3. You say Biblical women were the property of their husband's but that is never stated in the Bible. True, women were not on a level playing field then but up until recent times(Rosie the Riveter of WWII) it had always been that way because God made man first and then woman as his help mate.
In my marriage my wife and I are equals in all things but I being the man of our house am ultimately responsible for my family before God and so we believe I should have the final say in most matters. I am not the czar of my house though and usually where I need to decide on things my wife and I plan, discuss, etc
the best course of action for things.
4. Slavery was an evil vice of every society and culture at one time or another even in Africa, among the different tribes. Not just
in the Biblical times among God's people. Wrong everywhere at anytime among ANY people.
I think most of the time Christians (including myself) don't answer some questions because we're ridiculed by the questioner and their peers. So what will you do with my answer?

I'm a Christian, and these are my opinions - not necessarily a reflection of all Christian doctrines out there okay - but here goes:
1) It's important to stand for something, to say "yes this is right" or "this is wrong," at the same time it's important to realize that we're all screw-ups, and spend more time bettering ourselves than pointing at others.
2) I believe that homosexuality is just one of the many ways someone can misuse their sexuality, I would personally like to see adultery and pornography go away just as much, if not more.
3) Women and slaves being property of people 2000 years ago were a result of the culture of the time, not the teachings of Christ (I know, some will argue this - but like I said this is my opinion I'm expressing here).
have a nice day.

Sigh. Jesus did not preach tolerance. He did preach love. Tolerance today means to allow everyone's point of view to be valid. "Whatever is true for you, go for it." Jesus didn't preach that. He preached that He is "...the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) He was rather exclusive in His message. "My way or the highway." Of course, He is God, so He gets to make the rules.
Homosexuality IS an abomination. So is adultery. Why is homosexuality on the radar, when adultery isn't? Because adulterers are not trying to force acceptance of their lifestyle on others.
Jesus did more for women's rights than anyone before Him. He stopped divorce cold. (Matthew 5:32) He also had women within His circle of disciples, which was unheard of at the time. (Luke 8)
And slavery in Judea was not the slavery that you are thinking of. There were no bankruptcy laws back then, and if you got into debt and couldn't repay, you sold yourself into servitude to pay the debt. If you stayed longer than seven years, that was YOUR choice. (Exodus 21)
As to the Romans' concept of slavery, a similar situation applied. A person could buy their freedom, and Christ's servant Paul mentioned this, "Were you a slave when you were called? Do not let that bother you. Of course, if you have a chance to become free, take advantage of the opportunity." (I Corinthians 7:21)
Please understand, people have for millennia tried to destroy the Bible and what it stands for, and yet it survives. But God has a sense of humor. Voltaire, an 18th century French philosopher, boasted that he would destroy Christianity within 50 years. He vigorously began writing books against God. Ironically, 20 years after his death, the Geneva Bible Society purchased Voltaire's house and used it for printing the Bible.

okay, i'll explain:
- Not neccecarilly tolerance, but more specifically patience was taught by Christ. we do not accept sin and do nothing - rather, we are patient with those who have made a mistake.
- Adultery should be banned in my view, as it damages society and is against biblical teachings.
- Women were not property of men, but they were to respect men. However, men often didn't did not keep up their end of the "deal" (see roles of the sexes in genesis) The men were to respect and love women as if they were part of their own body.
- The term "slaves" in the Bible is an indirect mistranslation from the Greek language. the more specific translation of the word is "servant" (butlers in modern times)
if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask...

Hi there Stacia. I am a christian, and I do not even begin to think I have all the answers, but I will try my best, so bear with me!
1. Christ did teach love, not tolerence. There are rules that are to be followed. I am not the judge, no one is, only God. I will teach my children to follow God's laws.
2. Both homosexuality and adultery are sins. Sin seperates us from God.
3. Christ was a proponent of women. He preached from thier homes, included them in his work, and never taught that we are property.
As far as slavery, it is wrong. If you are enslaved read Mark 10:44-45

Simply because some treat the Bible as a cafeteria and falsely believe they can take or leave what they want, and many go on preaching falsehoods, and wrong beliefs, some don't know they are but they do, the best thing for anyone to do is to read it for themselves if they think they are being told something wrong, Only God can give you the answers you are looking for.
People can try, but that don't always mean they are correct.
Also you mention slavery, The Bible was different in the Old Testamant before the New Covenant was made, before Christ died on the cross for our sins, many things changed with The start of The New Testamant, as in circumcision, ect.

Perhaps because many people presently here in the US base things on a 'majority' basis, not purity basis. Man can see 5 (who, what, when, where, how) things, but Gods sees the 6th (why). 1 Samuel 16:7.
Using the 5 criteria, Bathsheba was sinning by having sex with David, Jonathan and David were sinning by passing the love of women (sex?).(2 Samuel 1:26). etc. My understanding; no they were not sinning.

Those who don't live their lives acording to what Christ has taught them to, are hypocrites. But not all are. Homosexuality should be banned and so should adultery. But before you start saying that we arent trying to ban adultery, find the actual facts that say we aren't. Women in Biblical times were subordinate to men, and they are now. We aren't as equally paid, we face discrimination, etc. The Bible doesn't say that we should be our husband's slave, it only says that the man has more authority than we do. Servants and slaves were okay in the Old Testament. In the New testament, the Bible doesn't seem to mention slavery. What God has allowed in the Old testament, doesn't always stay the same in the New testament. Instead of trying to claim that wwe are hypocrites, you should actually find your facts to support your claims.

Jesus came to earth full of grace AND truth. Here is an example.
"The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery. Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?" This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him.
Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground. And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her." And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground.
But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
Jesus stood up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more." John 8:3-11
These people could have brought a man caught lying with another man like a woman before Jesus and gotten the same response. Jesus would have said to the homosexual "Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more."
Jesus didn't preach tolerance of sinful behavior. He preached repentance and forgiveness of sins. That's a far cry from preaching "keep on sinning and I'll keep on forgiving you".
"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11
When a person turns to Jesus and receives the Holy Spirit they are freed not only from the penalty but also from the power of sin to live a changed life just like the believers in Corinth that Paul was writing to. Notice that some of these people WERE homosexuals.

...Maybe you can point me to the "tolerance" verses - I am not sure where they are - I think you are trying to mix modern culture and politically correct ideas with Scripture.
...Sometimes love involves instructing others in righteous living, according to Scripture, whether or not it is approved by the masses.
...Where are the passages that say God approves of homosexual behavior? There are many verses that condemn this lifestyle.
...Homosexuality is not the only sin that God disapproves of - God is pure and holy and can stand no sin in His presence. Jesus was hard on hypocrites, too.
...Where does mankind stand before God? Observe:
James 2:10 says, "For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, has become guilty of all." That's all it takes, brother/sister, is one sin, and we are guilty before God, so...every human is condemned before God without Jesus Christ.
..."For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God", says Romans 3:23.
...If'n I were you, before I got all hot and bothered about others, I would search my own heart - are you right with God? Romans 14:2 says, "Each of us shall give account of himself to God."
...Praise God that He provided the Lord Jesus Christ to pay the price for our sins and be raised for us.
...Pilate of old said, "Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?" And sir/ma'am, what have you done with Jesus Christ? Have you seriously considered His claims to be God? Is He a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord? He leaves you no wiggle room - what you decide will determine your eternal destination.
...I really hope, pray, and urge you to "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved", while it still is the day of salvation. "Whosoever will, may come".
