Ephesians 2:8,9 says "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works lest any man should boast." Notice it says "not of works." We can not do enough good works to save ourselves and go to Heaven. God said that all our good works are as filthy rags. Jesus said in John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by me." Jesus is the ONLY way to Heaven. There is no other way.

Good works secure nothing except that they were done and may ease one's guilty conscience somewhat for all of the evil he/she has done. The ONLY way to secure a spot in heaven is to put your total trust in the LORD Jesus Christ (Y'shua hamashiach) as your saviour from hell - he took the punishment for all the sins you (and I, and others) have committed and will commit. Cuz no one is good enough on their own to merit heaven. In street lingo, he took the rap for your crimes so you could walk out of the courtroom a free man.

And you have to stay hooked up to him, by praying to him, seeking his will, reading his word, and wanting to be conformed to his image. It's a free will thing. You either are so grateful for him taking the rap that you WANT to know him and serve him, or you act like he's no big deal and reap the same treatment in the end.

It's a pertinent question you asked, and I encourage you to get ahold of a King James bible, start reading in the New Testament (start with the book of John) and ask God questions anytime there's something that you just simply do not understand. He will definitely give the you answers to all of your questions - not necessarily right on the spot - but thank him in advance for the answer he'll give and see what happens!

God bless you.

It says in the Bible In St. John 3:5 "Except a man be born of the water and of the spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom oh heaven." Water is baptized in his name, spirit is the Holy Ghost as explained in Acts 2:38. You must repent be baptized in Jesus mane and you shall be filled with the Holy Ghost.

I see that you are new here... Welcome.. I can only tell you what the scripture says on this subject. Just so things are clear there is no Proof that I gave give you that anything that is in the Bible is true. It's all based on faith. And it's that faith, a faith in Christ that brings eternal life. Jesus told a important teacher of the Jews that God loved Mankind so much that He sent Jesus to earth for us. If we have faith in His (Trust Him) that He would give us eternal life. I know that sounds easy even simplistic but God uses the simple things to do mighty tasks. I am glad you have come to join us here I hope it is a very positive experience for you... Jim

The Bible says that faith in Jesus is the one and only way into Heaven.

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Okay, what gets you to heaven is to ask Jesus into your heart & to truly believe that he died on the cross for your sins. You ask for forgiveness for your sins & you do your best to repent. You don't have to be perfect & you can't be perfect & it's not good deeds that get you into heaven. I'm sure God sometimes blesses people more abundantly when they do though. But someone who worships Satan or someone who doesn't believe in God or heaven can do all sorts of good on earth but not go to heaven because they never asked Jesus into their hearts. I hope you figure this out & I hope God blesses you.

Faith is first- if you have faith, then you are obedient to the commandments, and if you have faith.. then you have good works. Good works is just the result of faith.

BUT.... after ALL you can do.... then Christ makes up the rest. Thus, repentance. That is what grace is.. after all you can do, Christ makes up the difference.

Your work are again, a result of faith. The lord needs you to do good works. He also needs you to repent and keep trying when you fall and fail.

Remember.. after ALL you can do then his grace is sufficient.

The only way is to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins and to stop sinning (this is the breaking of the ten commandments)You must believe Jesus died for your sins and is holy and sinless and rose from the dead and will come back to those who have chose follow Him completely.

Good works certainly help the cause, but the thing that works for HIM is "your belief in HIM" and following his laws. Having love in your heart, like that of an innocent child and forgiving others for their trespasses if you expect to be forgiven..........Hey, I'm not HIM so that is just my opinion.........HE'S the judge.......
