I would recommend a female Boston Terrier. They are small enough to be carried; they are friendly to people and children. Some males can be unfriendly toward other dogs, that is why I recommend a female. They are intelligent, easily trained, and are a great family pet.
However, they can be disposed to serious health problems. This can normally be avoided if you choose a reputable and experienced dog breeder. These breeds were actually bred down from the pit bull, but have none of the 'fighting' attitude of the pit bull.
Very friendly, intelligent and lovable little dogs.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I have a Maltese, he is 2 years old and weighs 6 lbs, He is for sure a lap dog, does not like to see my lap empty. The love of my life.He was crate trained in no time. He loves the cat and the visiting collie. In fact he loves all cats. He is not a good watch dog because he loves to see visitors. He does not bark often and he is the one to get if people are allergic. Maltese have hair like you and I, needs a lot of brushing especially if you keep it long( Toto;s hair is quite short) but they do not shed . I can't imagine being without him.

No question, a poodle or poodle mix. I've raised many different breeds, maltese, chihuahua, and poodles. Much depends on how early you get the dog and how you socialize it but the breed in and of itself is inherently sociable, not given to nipping or skittishness and very bright. And they LOVE to be pampered and adored. It's not necessary to handle a toy poodle with kid gloves, they're amazingly resiliant and adaptable little guys. I'd recommend a rescue; you both win that way:) Good luck.

There is a lot more to owning a dog than bringing it to soccer games...

I had a Yorki/Lhaso Apso mix. She was the best dog, small enough to take with you, yet not yappy. She only barked when we told her to. She didn't seem to like kids too much cuz she liked being the center of attention. She never snapped or bit. I had her for 14 years and I wish I had her cloned.

A stuffed dog.
No, seriously, I have found that almost no dog will just automatically do those things. They have to be trained to do it.
Have you spoken to your mom about this at all?

Why don't you do some research on the AKC website
http://www.akc.org
Look at Pugs, Boston Terriers. they are usually friendly dogs and I have had many in my classes. Stay away from the tiny toy dogs.
