In looking for a used car, I would recommend picking up Consumer Reports Used Car buying guide. I've never gone wrong following their advice for cars. They will have lists of used cars to avoid, and recommended used cars in all the price ranges.

They also have compiled data on their members/readers experiences with vehicles in a number of areas, which can tell you what areas you need to be aware of when looking at a certain car. For example, some cars have weak electrical systems which can be problematic and expensive to repair later.

Use carfax.com to screen potential used cars by their vin number. This will highlight any cars that have had previous problems, and let you know if a car was a previous rental car, or something like that.

I would stay away from VWs as they tend to have higher insurance and repair costs. I once owned a Honda and my roommate a VW - we bought them the same month. My maintenance costs at the dealers were 1/2 of her costs -probably because there were 5-6 Honda dealers within 25 miles of us, while there was only one VW dealer in 50 miles.

I dug around for an odd deal when I bought my current vehicle in 2003. I found a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville with 64,000 original miles and one owner (the current owner was in a nursing home and the son was selling it for him). The car came fully loaded and was garage kept. I drove away with that car for $2,300.

I had done my homework and discovered that the 92' Bonneville was rated above average for both reliability and safety.

I figured, why spend $10,000 or more on a newer used car with the same mileage? The same things are going to break down on the newer car and its going to be more expensive to fix.

3 years later my car has 90,000 miles and is running strong. Because its so old, contains a modest 3.8 liter V6 and has a top safety rating its very cheap to insure.

My advice is go for economy; those "grandma specials" tend to be the best kept used cars you'll ever see. They're also some of the cheapest.

I have a Mazda RX7 R1 for sale, but if u want a family car a jetta is excellent. My first car was a jetta, I flipped it 3 times end over end and came out with a scratch on my head. If you are interested in the Mazda RX7 give me a buzz at venom180sx@yahoo.com

all I can say is don't get desperate shop smart. Don't buy one sight unseen no matter what the person guarantees.

What I suggest is look at the car dealers for program cars or the rental companies for what they have...rental cars are well maintained and come with a full factory warranty. This is what you do...find the car you want by the means suggested above...go to www.kelleybluebook..com...put in the information...what they say the car is worth...that's what you offer not a penney more. This works cause I have done it.

Good luck

you should look for a new car, it is not going to be that loaded, but at least you can get a lower interest rate in a new car that is going to last until you pay it off, instead of paying for something used that might not last. check the newspaper ads, that's where you get the best deals for new vehicles.

whatever you do have it checked out at a mechanic before you buy it. I just bought a 99ford taurus in "perfect" condition. The day after the starter died, 2 tires needed to be replaced, as well as all four brakes.

get a Japanese car, sounds too much for that jetta anyway, trust me, compare mileage/price with these, you want a low mileage car, still you are better off with a Honda,Toyota - jap

so a approaches as i be attentive to, whoever "hits" has the felony accountability or is "at fault". In different words, insurance corporations and regulation enforcements attitude is, "in case you're following each and every of the regulations of the line and protection, there is by no skill any reason to hit something." Now, if there grew to become into ice on the line, that ought to atleast make issues lean greater on your desire, yet i think of you're able to desire to have a photograph taken that day of the stretch of highway you slid on. it incredibly is why they are asserting you're able to desire to continuously have atleast a disposable digicam on your automobile to take a photograph of an accident and accident scene on the day of the accident, alongside with a cellular telephone, your insurance ideas, motive force's license and registration. with a bit of luck you have automobile insurance which could pay even regardless of if it is your fault, or if no longer, dissimilar buddies and relatives which will help you in this time of disaster. there is dissimilar different factors to contemplate: grew to become into the two of the drivers using whilst impaired, or in a hurry, did the two go away the scene of the accident beforehand regulation enforecement arrived, what variety of autos have been in touch, did the two have automobile insurance-dl license-registration-etc... So with a bit of luck, perchance there is different factors that are on your desire right here. In the two case, it extremely is a be-careful call to alwayspersistent appropriately and defensively and save as a lot area between you and different shifting autos or gadgets as achievable, have a seat belt on, and haven't any distractions like listening to the radio, ingesting, ingesting, speaking on a cellular telephone, etc... i be attentive to all this because of the fact i've got been using for years now, and characteristic in simple terms been in some injuries. In each and every accident different than one, somebody hit me and for some reason none of them even had a motive force's license!!!! interior the accident the place I hit somebody, I rear ended somebody, in simple terms such as you probably did. So on the grounds that I "hit", it grew to become into my fault, even regardless of the shown fact that the automobile in front of me stopped short and actually rapid, no longer giving me any time to grant up. the sole factor that saved me grew to become into that the automobile I hit left the scene of the accident, and, from what I understand, it grew to become into some style of insurance rip-off on the portion of the different motive force.
