Piper nigrum. Perennial. Plant produces black peppercorns. Peppercorns are dried and used to make black pepper. You can grow this tropical tree in containers and bring them indoor in the fall. Try growing your own black pepper plant!

pepper comes from india indonesia and brazil nowadays.
it is grown on a vine (Piper nigrum) which has small green berries that turn red when they ripen. when they are ripe the berries are picked and dried and they turn black and so black pepper. for white pepper the berries are picked when they are ripe and then are husked, dried, soaked in water and rubbed.
