I was married in Vietnam so I can tell you everything you need to know about who does what and where.
Of course bridesmaids help the bride like here. General stuff. Taking care of the dress's, not 1 dress, often the bride wears 4 or 5!!!!
But the main job of usually 7 bridemaids is the accept the gifts from the 7 groomsmen.
The gifts are fruit, food, wine, vegtables. These gifts are sacred because they represent gifts from the grooms family to the brides family.
Before you ever go to the church, the gifts are presented outside of the girls home. Much like a procession the groom will walk first and the 7 groomsmen will follow. outside of the brides home the bridesmaids will stand and wait for the gifts.
After the gifts are given, they will be put on a table and people will light incense around them and bow. It is all really a lovely thing. Deep tradition and spirituality always in everything done.
Of course the bride does finally come out in the RED dress first. That is where the groom will put the earrings on her. He will also put the necklace and the rings as well. The tradition of the groom putting on earrings was unqiue for me. I was nervous. But I did it and the earrings were put on good:)
After the gift giving, then all the people there go to the church.
The wedding ceremony is similar to american style if it is catholic wedding like I was in. However the bridesmaids and groomsmen have no job to do in the actual wedding ceremony. They just sit with the rest of the people in the pews.

I think a Vietnamese-American wedding is a hard one to plan. I'm in this predicament myself, and it is the assumption that the children take the burden of the payment. 30,000 seems reasonable, but I'm sure you can cut the cost in different ways. I have my bridesmaids paying for one of their two dresses. I'm trying to split the customs down the middle... I'm just hoping that the guests will bring money to help with the bill.

In our wedding brides maid just helped the bride in anything she requested. She also held the flowers after I gave them to the bride and stood by the bride with them when we exchanged our gifts during the wedding. You will enjoy the honor.

You don't have to do much actually, just be by herside.. there's nothing for you do to except hold her dress and calm her down for the wedding. In the vietnamese weddings, the bridemaids don't have a lot to do. It's just a front row seat to her marriage.

What you really need to do is to just calm her down, help her out with small stuff and just enjoy it yourself.
