Any technical institute should have a small engine repair class/degree. (2 strokes etc)

However some boats use I4,v6,v8s I believe.

Not sure what you can find for schools in your area. But I am a small engine technician, and it is an exciting career to get into. You didn't say if you were interested in outboard motors, inboard/outboard, or just plain inboard. One of my first projects in school was to get an old Johnson outboard running again. I did it. Then I rebuilt a 115 H.P. Mercury outboard. That was fun! They use lots of specialty tools on Merc, but I improvised and completed the project. The guy is still using that engine now.
