It means that your ancestors are your beginnings

It means without knowing your ancestors, you don't know your background, where you came from, what is a part of you.
You see, a tree starts of with a seed, then roots, and then it grows into a tree.
Just like a family. It starts of with one, they produce, and so forth to a continuing cycle which is then called the "Family Tree".
Without knowledge of your ancestors you aren't capable of understanding all of the history your family has gone through, all obstacles that were overcome, and all the great accomplishments and struggles.
