Hi my dog has been limping lately, sometimes after we get back from the off leash dog park, he sits down but then has A LOT of difficulty in getting up. This happened before, when he walked he would yelp and fall down. Is there a vet out there, on here that can help me? How much will it cost to get an x-ray?!?!?!

Depends on your dog. Many breeds (mostly large breeds like German Shepherds, Great Danes and the like) are subject to Dysplasia.

The weight of your dog will have a lot to do with it as well. Heavier dogs are much more susceptible to hip problems.

If it's not a genetic problem, it can likely be helped by putting your dog on a diet and supplementing that diet with things like Glucosamine. We use two supplements for our dogs: Synovi G3 chewable tablets and VetriScience CaninePlus multivitamin supplements.

Our German Shepherd had a more rare disease called "German Shepherd Degenerative Myelopathy" which looked like Dsyplasia, but was actually a nerve problem.

Best to go get the dog checked-out at the vet before it gets to the point of needing surgery.

Should you need to purchase supplements, I would recommend http://www.kvvet.com/ or a similar provider - they will save you the big $$$ markup your vet will charge you.

It can be a dysplastic hip, it can be a strain, it can be a ruptured cruciate ligament, it can be a luxating patella, it can be a lot of things.......you need to have the dog see a vet and see if they can steer you in the right direction. An x-ray can cost anywhere from $45-85 for the first view and then the next views are usually cheaper. The vet may then be able to tell you what is wrong. Sometimes, if it is a ligament rupture, it cannot be diagnosed by x-ray alone. See the vet and go from there.

The cost will depend on your location. Call around to local vet clinics and ask them how much an office visit and an x-ray cost. Some vets won't even handle orthopedics, and will send you to a specialist. Good luck.

You don't say how old your dog is or if he's had any leg/joint injuries in the past.
The only way to diagnose hip dysplasia is by x-ray. (be aware unless it is very bad a vet can't tell by manipulation alone).
There are many causes of limping besides hip dysplasia: acl tears, muscle strains, injuries, arthritis, etc.
Take your dog to the vet get an exam and x-rays.

Most vets will do the hip x-rays. Cost is about $150.

I had a Basset Hound that had hip displasia and it cost $45.00 for the x-ray and about $68.00 a month for the pain pills. I used to give her Bayer baby aspirin which seemed to help for almost three years but then it finally got to a point that I had to put her down. She had many problems. It is so hard to see your pet be in pain and suffer. I wish you the best with your dog.
