Immigration is not quite what it used to be, but still fairly good. It's lengthy and can take a fair bit of money, but worth it in the end. :)

www.workopolis.com is a great site for jobs. If you can find someone to offer you a job from where you are, you can get a work visa ($150.00 cdn), and that is valid for a year. Immigration goes on lots of different premises, if you're living here on a work permit, and have a good job, you shouldn't have any problems.

You might also want to try the immigration site below too.

If you look for a job in Alberta, you'll pretty much get it. They are booming right now, and they wanted to pay my friend $90,000.00 a year to operate a crane. You being an engineer, you're pretty much good to go!!

Have fun, hope you make it!!

I've lived in Alberta, Canada my whole life, and the economy is in an oil boom now. Alberta has a faster growing economy than any state or any province. We have labour shortages in many areas, so I find in strange that only 6500 Americans immigrate to Canada each year.

That being said, Canada takes in 250 000 legal immigrants/yr which is double what the U.S. takes in proportionately speaking, and Canada is a lot like the U.S., and immigration is restricted because of xenophobia.

There was a CBC show on immigration once, and the show said the government of Canada would never admit it, but said immigration is in fact limited so that the face and culture of Canada doesn't change too fast.

I'm aware that company sponsorship, mostly for skilled immigrants, family sponsorship, refugee claims, and investment are the major ways to come to Canada.

I'm an engineer, and many, but not all, engineering companies won't hire you unless you are a permanent resident of Canada, but Immigration Canada won't make you a permanent resident unless you have a job lined up for which no Canadian was found, so that is frustrating for people like you.
