First of all, deny him any table scraps. He will eventually get used to NOT having them. Beneful is a grocery store dog food which has alot of fillers, just as much as any Purina product. It is best to go to a good pet store or ask your vet. It all depends on the age of your dog, weight, etc. Since your dog is a small dog it shouldn't cost much to get him a nutritious dog food that will last for at least a month. I spend about $30.00 on a 30lb bag of Nutro dog food for overweight inactive dogs, not that yours is. There are so many good brands of dog food that will fit your dogs nutritional needs. Iams is NOT good either. A little research goes a long way. Your pet will get used to what you feed him. They may be finicky at first but with perseverance they will be healthier. Good Luck!

I feed my chihuahua Chicken Soup for the Dog lovers soul. The pieces are small enough for him, meat is the first ingredient, and he loves it! (it also makes for firm poop, which is great, because i live in a city and have to pick it up) You can get it online or in select dog stores, and the price is pretty much the same as any of the other brands. Plus, his coat has never been softer.
No more scraps! If he won't eat the food you give him, try mixing his dry food with a tiny bit of wet food. It's usually enough incentive to get them interested.
Also, my little guys LOVES this wet dessert treat called Healthy Dessets by Natural Choice.

It really depends on what works for YOUR dog. First I'd rule out any health problems (worms, dental issues, thyroid, etc.) Then just start trying different brands of food. My dogs eat Purina ProPlan Performance. They don't sell it in small bags in my area though, so that may cause a problem for you. 40 pounds of food will last a chihuahua a long time!! Diamond also makes some very good natural line products. I give everyone that buys a puppy from me several different samples to try, purina, eukanuba, diamond, flint river, etc. Don't get caught up in name brands...do what works best for you guys. Good luck!

"GO!" is a very heathly, non filler, UNLIKE "IAMS" and it makes them have less poops-which is very good. You can buy this food at "Bosleys" or other pet food places. Yes, it can be expensive, but it is totally worth it. I was looking at Iams but it is not as good for them, it has animal by products or something. Remember, the most expensive food is the great stuff and vise versa. "GO!" also has a 'alergy' food, just in case your dog is allergic to something. And if he does not like the dry food, please do not feed him the wet stuff, nor the gravy from Iams-they are the worst. If he doesnt eat the dry food by its self, add a little something, like left over gravy for instance from the night before.
OH AND P.S. for Peanut, since he is small, you can get the small bags or the bigger bags or food :o)

best is DRY premium dog food because it cleans their teeth and they poop less. such as iams, science diet, nutro max, blue buffalo, pro plan, etc. sorry to say, but purina beneful s*u*c*k*s, too many fillers. since your dog likes table food, its gonna be hard to find him a food he'll eat. try getting samples from the pet store, and maybe some of that dog food gravy they sell there too. i would not give him any more table food, he will starve but eventually
eat normal dog food.

All dogs are going to prefer table scraps to dog food. You just have to cut him off of the scraps. Don't give him a choice. It's either doggie food or nothing. Sooner or later he will eat. We have a pomerainian and he eats pedigree for small dogs food.

I would take him to the vet, test him for any worms, and he will recommend what food would be best for him.

your best bet is to rule out any health problem, please go to your vet for this, and once you know that your dog is healthy then your vet will priscribe a proper diet for your dog!
