No, rice just kills them... if you want them to explode you have to feed them alka-seltzer tablets, and it only works with seagulls (so far as I know).

No. There are lots of birds where rice is their main diet, and you don't see them heating up any water...
To paraphrase one of the websites:

One learns that rice farmers set aside 500,000 acres of rice fields for overwintering waterfowl habitat, with 300 pounds of "residual grains" left per acre! Think of it: thousands of circling birds, detonating like flak bursts in Twelve o'Clock High! But the rice federation says bull. They quote another expert from Cornell, who says birds have powerful muscles and grit in their stomachs to grind up the rice before it reaches critical mass.

No. Birds do not explode if you feed them uncooked rice.

Let's all say it together:

Birds do not explode if you feed them uncooked rice.

Enough Said.
Sorry, but between answering questions about exploding birds and which came first, the chicken or the egg, I'm starting to laugh despite all of this hosepoop!

No, they do not explode. But the rice does suck up fluid and clogs them up, which can kill them. What about Alka-Seltzer fed to seagulls? We have billions of them. Think I might give it a try.

That's a contemporary myth, but feeding them anything they wouldn't normally eat in the wild is bad for them, and considering how most rice is processed, well perhaps no one should eat it.
