Would the type of gas released matter? ie. air vs hydrogen vs radon, etc...

Some of the gas would dissolve into the water as the bubble rose; but the bubble would also expand to greater size as it rose, due to reduced water pressure. By the time it reached the surface it would contain somewhat less gas than it contained originally, but it would still be considerably larger than its original size.

it would depend on how saturated the water is with that particular gas.
