Need help for getting your significant other to stop doing something that annoys you?

The guy I'm with right now has been calling me his pet name he came up with for me in public. It's *sigh* snuggle bunny. I find it really embarrassing, it gets on my nerves and I don't like that much affection in public. I have told him this and I have even acted a little less responsive when he has called me it. I really care for him, but I just don't think I can take much more of this. It's already been going on for a few weeks. It seems too small of a thing to break up with him over this. We have been dating for 6 months so far.
So I'm asking what can I do to get him to stop it? (without breaking up with him, I'd only consider it as a extreme measure)

Give him an embarrsing one....like pooky muffen and use it....in front of his friends....alot
